    Life Update.

    So…. Yeah.

Long story short, quite a few things happened. SMoTE is still not getting regular updates, at most I can try to squeeze a chapter out a month. This isn’t because I’m too busy with my new job or anything, because I apparently don’t have one.

So yeah, if you read my last blog post then you know I was planning to delay SMoTE updates because of some amazing job opportunities.

Tales From the Trash Bin #7. Left In The Street. · 1:40pm Dec 18th, 2020

Here’s another failed fanfic that I tried to start up, and it’s here because I couldn’t find it in me to keep doing it. If you want it, take it, if you don’t, ignore it or read it. Sorry, I’m pretty tired right now, can’t really try to sell this as a decent story.

Those of you familiar with My Street know how… Interesting and complex the lore is for a minecraft role-playing series. So, I won’t be making a one-to-one recreation of their universe to have them interact with Sunset, mainly because that would make it difficult to portray the relationship between Zane and Kawaii-Chan (Yes, for those of you unfamiliar with the series that is technically her name.) So,I thought I’d make it an altered AU or whatever. It’s a fanfic first and foremost, not a continuation of Aphmau’s work.

So, enjoy what little I wrote for…

My Friends on My Street.

When your’ve been abandoned by everyone you love, is it wrong to lie to someone so that you can find some small sense of compassion? Sunset Shimmer’s life had taken a turn for the worse. Abandoned by her friends, she finds comfort in a misunderstanding.

Chapter 1:

Sunset Shimmer trudged through the snow that filled the streets as she tried to walk back home from school. Hours had passed since the final bell rang, and night had slowly descended upon the city, bathing it in moonlight for her to find her way through the dark back streets of the city. She avoided the main street in favor of sticking to the shadows, hiding from the few faces that littered the street.

She remembered a time when she didn’t have to hide like a criminal when she walked home, when she could leisurely walk alongside her fiends as they stopped at the mall or Sugarcube Corner to get something to eat, or to just talk. Unfortunately, those memories were nothing but a bitter reminder about what she had lost. Her friends, the ones she trusted more than anyone else in the world, had abandoned her without any remorse or hesitation.

It had all started because of one person, a vindictive bitch who concealed their identity while pretending to be Sunset. Anon-A -Miss, the one responsible for Sunset being turned into a social outcast, had ruined her life. Her friends turned their back on her, the students at her school accosted in the hallways, and even her teachers leered at her whenever she came to class. After running into a few instances of having students follow her home, Sunset decided to leave school at a later time and hide herself away in the janitor’s closet until everyone had left.

She missed the days when she wasn’t hated by everyone. Sunset had thought that those days were behind her, that helping to defeat the sirens and all the work she did to help her friends and the school itself had proven that she changed. But, her friends clearly didn’t think she changed. They abandoned her, left her to fend for herself against an army of pissed teenagers who all thought that she was the one who exposed their secrets.

She trusted them with her life, and she was a complete fool to think that they trusted her in turn. A year of committing herself to becoming a better person meant nothing to the three prior years of her reign as the school’s bitchy queen. Still, she liked to think that it had meant something, that her efforts to better herself weren’t for nothing.

She was alone, abandoned, and not even given the decency of being forgotten. Sunset would have preferred if they just forgot about her, if they acted as if she never existed and moved on with their lives. But instead, they used their past to twist the knife that was buried in their back. They weren’t sorry for hurting her, they were sorry fore ever giving her a chance, they were sorry that they wasted their precious time on her. They all made it clear that they never really liked her. If they had, then maybe they would have taken at least a moment to listen to her. But they didn’t.

As she lamented her new life of loneliness, she failed to hear the sound of crunching snow grow closer until she heard the other person yell her name.

“Sunset!” A man’s voice called out, prompting Sunset to turn and look at the person calling her name. Unlike the many other times she had heard her name pass through someone else’s lips, she couldn’t hear any trance of anger or resentment when they said her name. In fact, she could almost mistake it for genuine enthusiasm.

Unfortunately, any hope she had that she could meet a friendly face was washed away when she turned around. Her heart sunk as she saw the boy standing a few yards behind her. His mouth and nose were obscured by a black face mask. His hands were tucked into the pockets of his thick black jacket, hiding any number of weapons that could fit in his pockets.

“Sunset, it’s been a while,” the man continued as he walked closer.

Sunset noticed that his hair partially hid his right eye, allowing the masked figure to further hide his identity from her. She visibly flinched as he drew closer, watching his right hand draw out of his pocket with fear as she waited for him to take out a knife or a gun.

Before she could let loose a plead for mercy, he pulled out his free hand to offer it to her when he was less than a yard away. After she took the time to stare at his outstretched hand, the man politely coughed inside his mask to draw her attention.

“Um, Sunset, everything okay?” He asked with a raised eye brow.

“Y-yeah, I’m fine,” Sunset replied as she shook the stranger’s hand. “I’m sorry but… Do I know you?” She asked hesitantly. Was he another one of the Anon-A-Miss victims, a friend of a victim, or was he one of the people she hurt before the Anon-A-Miss incident? Why did he wear a face mask instead of something like a scarf? Why was he walking through the backstreets like she was? How did he know her?

Those and many other fearful questions began to race in her mind. The man, who was completely unaware of Sunset’s inter turmoil, lightly chuckled before he released her hand.

“Really? Sunset, how many people do you know that wear a face mask?” He asked in a sarcastic and joking manner.

When Sunset didn’t reply, the masked man decided to introduce himself.

“It’s me… Zane,” he told her, as if his name held some significant meaning to her. “We uh… Went to middle school together? I was ‘Masky Jr.’ You punched my brother in the face on Halloween,“ he elaborated with a roll of his wrist as if he could crank the memories out of her mind.

It only took Sunset a second to realize the implications of his words. Zane had never met her, he met the original Sunset Shimmer of their reality, the one that was there before her. Sunset had always lived with the comforting thought that her counter part didn’t exist in her new dimension, years of having no one recognize her or call her out had caused her to believe that she was the only Sunset Shimmer of the human world. But, in only a moment, Zane had proved her comforting thought to be nothing more than another lie.

She couldn’t really deny that she was Sunset Shimmer, and there was no way he’d believe that she was just a perspn named Sunset who shared physical similarities to the one he befriended in middle school.

“Oh, right, Zane. Yeah, I remember you,” she lied. “How have you been doing… Masky?”

“Pretty good. I just moved back a bit ago with Garroth. We just graduated last year, so Garroth is looking for a job that… can handle his enthusiasm. Oh, and I got a girlfriend!” He revealed.

“… … I’m telling the truth,” Zane added when Sunset didn’t comment.

“Oh! I didn’t mean—“

“HEY SHIMMER!” A loud voice called out, causing Zane and Sunset to turn and see an imposing figure of muscle walk towards them.

Sunset felt her face pale as the large blonde teenager scowl at her with an absolute rage.

“HEY! Leave her alone, asshole!” Zane shouted as he shoved the wall of meat off of Sunset.

“Run!” Zane ordered as he grabbed Sunset’s hand and began to run away from the maced teenager.

“Oh my Irene, what the heck was—” Zane was abruptly cut off as Sunset wrapped her arms around him.

How long had she been waiting for someone to offer her a hand, to show a hint of sympathy for her? No one in the school had even humored the idea of helping her. But Zane, a complete stranger to her, stood up to someone twice his size and saved her.

Well, that wasn’t necessarily true. He didn’t save the Sunset Shimmer that everyone hated, the one who plotted to conquer her home dimension with an army of enslaved teens, the one who was an irredeemable monster. He saved someone else, someone he called a friend, someone that Sunset wasn’t. But, just because she wasn’t the Sunset he intended to save, it didn’t make his actions any less sincere.

Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad if she pretended that she was the Sunset Shimmer he knew. At least then she could have a friend in her darkest hour.

Chapter 2:

“Are you sure you’re fine, Sunset?”

“Yeah, I’m okay.”

“I still think we should call the police. I mean, that guy tried to attack you!” Zane argued.

“Hey, wait a sec Sun. Here’s my number. I know it’s been a while since middle school, but I’d like to reconnect a bit. Call me whenever you feel like it, okay? And remember what I said, pack some mace with you for self defense,” he advised her before turning on his heels to walk away.

Thankfully, it seemed like none of the other students had ever bothered to try and look for her address over the internet, and they were all blissfully ignorant of the little website that held extensive information about her housing history.

Another Sunset Shimmer who was listed as a year older than her, once that lived in Vancouver. So, there was little to no threat of the other Sunset from coming to town and ruining her plan to befriend Zane

“Kawaii-Chan can be… intense,” he warned.

“ ‘Kawaii-Chan’? Is that your pet?” Sunset asked. She could see hints of a blush poking out from the top of Zane’s mask as he fumbled with the keys.

“N-no, she’s—“

“Hi Zane-Kun how…” The cat eared girl trailed off as she noticed Sunset standing next to Zane.

“Kawaii-Chan, this is Sunset Shimmer, you remember what I told you about her, right?”

“Oh my gosh, Kawaii-Chan is so happy to meet you!” The girl, presumably ‘Kawaii-Chan’, said as she shook Sunset’s hand. “Zane-Kun said that you were a good friend of his back in middle school, and that he was really looking forward to meeting you again.”

“Um, yeah, Zane and I go waaaay back,” Sunset lied as she freed her hand from Kawaii-Chan’s iron grip. “So, you’re Zane’s girlfriend?”

“Y-yes,” she replied timidly as a blush began to spread across her face. “Zane-Kun and Kawaii-Chan have been dating for a almost a year now, after Zane-Kun helped Kawaii-Chan with… things.”

“She means when I helped her stop obsessing about shipping our fiends,” Zane elaborated, causing the cat eared anime girl to mewl in annoyance.

“Zaaaane. Sunset doesn’t need to know about thaaaat,” she whined.

“Oh well, the cat’s out of the bag now,” Zane (possibly?) joked.

Kawaii-Chan only pouted in response as she stepped aside to let Zane and Sunset into the apartment. Sunset briefly wondered if Kawaii-Chan, if that was her real name, was related to another teen that spoke in third person who went to CHS.

“Blegh! Kawaii-Chan hates Sugarcube Corner. The girl there is so… weird,” Kawaii-Chan said without any hint of ironic humor. “And their cupcakes don’t taste good. They make Kawaii-Chan’s tummy ache.”

She felt tempted to ask about the mask, but decided to keep it to herself for the moment.

“Yeah, hey, could you tell Kawaii-Chan about the time you beat up over a dozen bullies?”

“It was two bullies and I helped,” Zane interjected as he sat down on the couch.

“I’m suuuure you did, Zane-kun, but Kawaii-Chan wants to hear Sunset’s version.”

“Wait, what do you mean by that? I totally helped!” Zane argued.

“… Kawaii-Chan is sure you moral support was greatly appreciated."

“Hey!” He shouted with faux anger. Sunset couldn’t help but to snicker at their odd dynamic.

“Garroth’s at a job interview right now, so assuming that he manages to not get thrown out during the interview, he should be back in about two hours.”

I'm mainly in it for Kawaii Chan and Zane. Those two are too damn adorable together.
