    Life Update.

    So…. Yeah.

Long story short, quite a few things happened. SMoTE is still not getting regular updates, at most I can try to squeeze a chapter out a month. This isn’t because I’m too busy with my new job or anything, because I apparently don’t have one.

So yeah, if you read my last blog post then you know I was planning to delay SMoTE updates because of some amazing job opportunities.

Tales From the Trash Bin #6 Flash Sentry is Terrible, Fight Me. · 3:01pm Dec 11th, 2020

My Desktop is almost manageable by this point. Aside from this fic, there’s one last one that’s sitting at the top of my bin that I’m still hesitant to toss away. Well, there is another, another one but that’s not even close to a story, just a few loose sentences and dialogue sheets stapled together with gummy bears and silly string. So, after this blog post, there’ll probably only be one more Tales From the Trash Bin after this. Or maybe not, who knows? Do people even read this, or are the numbers I see just a figment of my imagination? Are you real? Am I real? Is My Little Pony real? I don’t know!

Anyway, here’s some context for this story. Skip it if you want, it’s not too important. I just read a few Anon-A-Miss fics and thought to myself, “What could I do to take a new spin on it and help the best multi-dimensional traveling unicorn?” The idea of a MLP fan who read the comics traveling to EQG drifted in my mind for a bit, and I changed it to be a person who only saw the show, didn’t read the comics, and decided to put them in the body of a character. However, suddenly stuffing them into a body when the events of Anon-A-Miss came made me think how… weird and morally grey it is to find comfort in a bodysnatcher. Like, it usually works in stories where the protagonist takes over the body of someone that everyone hates which makes it easier to accept for the audience, but Flash isn’t really “evil” to anyone in the EQG world so….. Yeah, I thought I’d set the story a few years before that, have the character create a good relationship with Sunset and see what fun I could have with a character who hates his own reflection.

I didn’t get very far, hence why it’s on this blog and not a published story. So, as always, feel free to take it and write your own story or just ignore it.

I’m Flash Sentry?!

After finally graduating from high school, a twenty year old man is reborn as a high school student in a cartoon. What’s worse, is that he’s become debatably the worst character in it. No, not the villain, not even some random background character. He’s Flash Waifu-Stealing Sentry, and he really hates… Everything at the moment.

Watch as Flash Sentry is forced to relieve the nightmare that is high-school while attempting to use what little knowledge of the show he has to his advantage.

Fuck!
Let Me Go!
Aw, Shit!
Shut Up!
Hell is Other People.

Chapter 1. FUCK!

The steady rhythm of a heart monitor was the only thing that brought peace of mind to the girl who sat in the hospital room. The tv in the corner of the room and the background noise of the doctors and nurses in the halls became white noise to the regular beeps that filled her ears.

Sunset Shimmer, a teenage girl with deep yellow skin and red hair with streaks of yellow running through it, silently sat next to the unconscious patient. She nervously rapped her fingers against the bars of the hospital bed, looking at the unconscious boy that had his head wrapped in bandages.

The goofy expression and dumb look he always wore with insincere confidence had been replaced by a neutral expression, not revealing a hint of himself to the world as he rested. Sunset pulled out his phone as another friend from his band sent a text to ask about how he was doing. After Flash Sentry, the blue haired goofball that was laying in the bed, was hit by a speeding car, Sunset made sure to text everyone in Flash’s contacts that he was at the hospital.

Aside from the fracture on his skull, his leg was broken and his left arm was forced into a cast that bent his arm in an “L” shape. While his face was mostly free of bandages, the rest of him had been encased in wrappings, casts, and thin blankets that laid on his unconscious body.

As Sunset stared at the boy she had planned to make her boyfriend, a gentle knock at the door drew her attention away from the unconscious teenager. Standing at the door was a nurse with a clipboard at her side. She gave Sunset a sympathetic smile as she stepped in to speak with her.

“Sunset Shimmer, correct?” She asked.

“Yes ma’am.”

“Good. Thank you for contacting his family for us. I’d like for you to know that Flash should recover soon, but it won’t be immediate. Most likely, we’ll have to wait some time before he’s well enough to move again.”

“Thank you,” Sunset replied with a genuine tone of voice while she internally berated the nurse.

He fucking better! You’re a nurse, it’s your Celestia-damned job to make sure he recovers. I know he’s going to get better, because if he doesn’t, I’m going to tear this hospital to the fucking ground. She thought, all while wearing a pleasant and thankful smile. Human medicine had been one of the worst things Sunset ever experienced in the human world. Granted, there was only so much that a society devoid of magic could accomplish, but it didn’t stop her from thinking lowly about the “evolved” primates that littered the planet.

As she continued to mock the intelligence of the hairless monkey in front of her, the nurse smiled in turn and asked her a simple question. “Do you need anything at the moment? I could point you to the vending machine if you’re feeling hungry?”

“No thank you, I’ll be fine.” Fuck your shitty food, hurry up and FIX the idiot.

“Alright then, just—“ The nurse was thankfully cut off by a pained groan behind Sunset.

As Sunset and the nurse turned their attention to Flash, his brow furrowed as his right hand slowly moved towards his head, causing him to wince when he touched the bandages.

“Ffffuck…” Flash muttered, causing Sunset to look at him with a surprised expression. Flash Boy-scout Sentry, the biggest goodie two-shoes she knew, cursed. Granted, he was just hit by a car, so it was reasonable for him to let his good-boy act slip because of the pain.

“Flash, are you alright?” Sunset asked as she leaned closer to him.

Flash’s head slowly turned to Sunset at the sound of her voice. When his eyes opened, all the color drained from his face as he looked at the teenage girl. Silence fell upon the room as his eyes grew wider, staring at Sunset with a mixture of fear and disbelief.

“Sunset… What the fuck,” he asked as he winced at his attempts to rise from the bed.

“Hey, hey, lie down Flash. It’s okay, you’re safe,” Sunset reassured him. “Are you okay, Flash?”

Her words did nothing to ease the growing concerns in his eyes as he looked at the room. “Phone, mirror, something, gimme something!” He demanded.

Without giving it much thought, Sunset reflexively handed over his cell phone. As soon as his free hand was on the phone, his fingers flew across the screen to open up the camera app and point it at himself.

Sunset had never seen Flash look so horrified before in his life than when he looked at his own reflection. She wondered if the blood that caked his face was what caused the color to completely vanish from his face and considered—

“NO! FUCK! I’M FLASH FUCKING SENTRY?!”

Chapter 2. Let Me Go!

Sunset stood outside Flash’s hospital room with the nurse beside her as they peered in to watch Flash struggle to not say his own name.

“Um… My name is Flash Sentry. It’s Flash. Goddamnit. Ffff… Lllll…. iiiint. Fllllash Sentry. MOTHERFUCKER!” Flash exclaimed as his hands flew to his mouth. He silently repeated his own name under his breath, apparently refusing to believe that his own name was Flash.

Sunset threw the nurse a questioning look as Flash continued to struggle with his name.

“What the hell is wrong with him?” Sunset asked, barely managing to hide the swelling anger in her voice.

“I’m… I’m not sure frankly. Something is definitely wrong. I’ll fetch one of the doctors and look over his x-rays. We might need to also give him a brain scan as well,” the nurse answered. “I’ll be right back, please, keep an eye on him and try to make him feel comfortable.”

With that, the nurse turned and walked away, leaving Sunset alone with a teenage boy that almost seemed to damaged to be useful. Still, helping him out would likely cause the student body to see her in a better light, allowing her to give off the impression of being a helpful friend to the most popular boy in school.

After taking a moment to plan out how her conversation with Flash would go, she knocked on the door to grab Flash’s attention as she walked in.

“Hey Flash, how are you feeling?”

“Like shit,” he replied without any hint of hesitation.

Once again, Sunset was slightly taken aback by his language, but opted to keep silent on the matter for the moment. “Well… Do you remember anything?” She asked as she took a seat next to his bed.

“… You’re Sunset Shimmer, I’m… I’m Flash Sentry,” he recalled with a noticeable amount of displeasure in his voice. “I’m Flash Sentry… Please, please tell me I’m not Flash Sentry.”

Sunset really wasn’t sure why he hated himself so much at the moment. He was the most popular kid in school, catching everyone’s attention with his charisma and personality. Sunset didn’t understand how he got so popular when, in her opinion, there were a dozen guys more interesting than him, but he was popular… somehow. She really didn’t understand how humans thought.

Before she could think of something else to say, Flash posed a question to her. “Sooo… We go to Canterlot High, right?”

“Yup,” she answered, keeping up a nice and cheerful expression as she prepared to pretend that she actually enjoyed the place of anguish that had been called a learning facility.

“Fucking wonderful,” Flash replied with zero enthusiasm. “So… What the hell happened to me?” He asked, staring at his left arm and leg.

“You were hit by a car. I was there when it happened and I called for an ambulance as soon as possible. I… I didn’t get the license plate of the driver.”

“… It wasn’t a red pickup, was it?”

“It was, it came out of nowhere,” Sunset answered. In truth, it was almost like it literally came out of nowhere. Neither she nor Flash had heard the car roaring down the street until it was already on top of him, and it vanished just as quickly when Sunset ran over to Flash.

“… Mother fucker…” Was all Flash could say.

Silence fell over the pair, allowing Sunset’s attention to be drawn to the Heart Rate Monitor, watching it rise faster than it had while Flash was unconscious. The beeps began to grow faster as he stared at his broken arms.

“Um… Are you okay?” She asked lamely, prompting Flash to stare at her with a bemused look. “You know, like… You’re just acting really different.”

“… I think I have amnesia,” Flash answered.

“We were just about to go on a date too,” she lied.

For some reason however, Flash just looked at her with a bored expression, as if he had already seen through her crocodile tears.

“Uh-huh… I’m Flash Fucking Sentry,” he muttered again. “I’m Flash Sentry and I’m dating Sunset Shimmer… Pros and cons, pros and big fucking cons…”

“What year of high school are we in?” He asked with a strange hint of fear in his voice.

“We’re halfway through sophomore year,” she answered.

“Sunset… Can you do me a favor?”

“Um… Sure?”

“Could you put me in a comma for the rest of High School?” He asked, seemingly genuine as he looked at her.

“Flash, that’s not funny,” she chastised. She couldn’t use him if he did something stupid like died or fell into a coma. Her plans for conquering Equestria hinged on having the school under her thumb and, at the moment, Flash’s popularity was a vital component she needed for her plan.

“I wasn’t trying to be,” he stated. “Well, in that case, wake me up in three years.”

He had never really taken care of his old body, slowly becoming merged with the couch as he worked on assignments and watched youtube videos.

He couldn’t remember who the girl with the mind-erasing stone was, or the name of the one with the magic mirror that sucked people up, but he was fairly sure he’d recognize them when he saw them.

“You’re the only one I can drop my ‘peppy cool dude bro’ persona around.”

“Playing as a character helps me cope with dealing with… Them all day.

“We’re skipping school,” Flash revealed.

“Sunset, first of all, high school is bullshit. Second of all, the SAT’s are double bullshit. You worry about getting high points, getting a good score, and you know what happens?” He rhetorically asked. “Nnnnothin’. You end up getting stressed over nothing because it doesn’t matter. When you get that small booklet at the end of your senior year, only one page of it will matter and that’ll be the one with the number of points you earn, and they’ll tell you to hold onto it because someone will ask for it, but they never will. No job will ever sit you down and ask, ‘What did you get on your SAT’s?’ because they don’t care.

“Hell, you could tell them you got the best score out of your class and they won’t even bother to check. Does it help with college? Maybe, if you wanted to get into Harvard or something. But aside from that, no college will actually care about your SAT score.”

“But—“

“Sunset, do you plan on going to Harvard?”

“Well, no.”

“Then don’t bother with that dumb test. It’s a waste of time and energy,” he advised.

“But what about—“

“But nothin’. It’s a dumb test and you won’t be able to convince me otherwise. Hell, I can’t even call it a test because you can’t even properly study for it. Look, I’m not telling you to skip the test and just take that day off, I’m just telling you not to worry as much. I’m still going to try, I just won’t work myself to the bone studying and worrying.”

“… You were Princess Celestia’s personal student in Equestria,” he said casually, causing Sunset’s mind to come to a complete halt.

“You were a unicorn filly, a good student, but the Princess wanted more from you. One day, she showed you a mirror and asked you what you saw. After that, your relationship as student and teacher began to strain until she kicked you out. You essentially said ‘fuck you, mom,’ and then you ran through the portal to end up in the human world.”

grabbed him by the collar of his jacket and slammed him against a wall.

“Okay.. In hindsight, that was pretty fucking stupid of me,” he admitted.

“How the fuck do you know that?!” She demanded.

“… Your plan fails.”

“But you know. You can tell me the parts that need to be fixed, and then—“

“And then what? Sunset, do you know what’s waiting on the other side of that portal? The world on that side isn’t safe, it’s… It’s not safe, Sunset. You can’t do it.”

“Why shouldn’t I?!”

"Because you could fucking die! There’s an army of insect shapeshifters, a magic eating demon, a fucking monkey king that controls the goddamn weather, and DISCORD! There are things over there that make you look like a fucking ant!

“You mean so much to me, Sunset. You’re my friend… And you’re the only one who can even comprehend what I’m going through… I’ve been stuck in a fucking body that I hate, and I have to pretend that I’m happy whenever I talk to these fucking people… It’s hell.”
