Greetings, everyone! Here is my review of Disney’s Tarzan! Back when I was in 3rd grade, my teacher had our class watch this movie during the last days of school if my memory serves right. That was the first time I’ve ever watched Tarzan. Many years later, I couldn’t remember what this movie was about since I was very young the time I watched it. The only things I remembered were the leopard scenes, the hunter who was apparently the bad guy, and him falling to his death. So I had to rewatch this movie two years ago to fully catch what I couldn’t remember. To be honest, it felt as if I was watching it for the first time; after watching it the second time, I deeply enjoyed it!

This film has tons of fun, meaning, character growth, and even plenty of action. I would consider this to be my third favorite Disney film of all time. So, here are my thoughts on this film:

1). Tarzan (voiced by Tony Goldwyn) is actually a decent protagonist. He’s certainly better than Aladdin since he is more entertaining and less annoying. Seeing him as a baby, then a boy, and then a man was very interesting to look at as he grows and learns from the gorillas. He is a young man who is trying to adapt himself to that family after the murder of his parents by Sabor the Leopard. While Kerchak dislikes him at first, Kala does all in her power to make him feel at home as his adoptive mother. The more he grows, the more he learns and experiences.

Here is some nice info: Kerchak was voiced by Lance Henriksen. the same guy who voiced Lockdown in Transformers: Animated. MIND-BLOWN! I never knew that until now! It’s no wonder their voices are quite similar!

2). Jane is also another decent character and love interest for our protagonist. I like her personality and her interaction with Tarzan and even with our supporting characters. Plus, she isn’t so useless in the story and actually did something in the final battle. Just like with Esmeralda, why isn’t she a Disney Princess like the others?

3). Clayton is... an okay villain. Normally, I would put villains as last in my reviews to signify “saving the best for the last”. But Clayton is just not that memorable for me. Sure, he wanted to capture those “GOR-RIL-LAASS!!” for money and stuff, but villains who are only evil for the money and wealth are just boring to me. However, he does have one redeeming quality that we would never forget: his brutal death. For a long time, I thought that he died by falling from a great height in the jungle. No... he accidentally hanged himself with a vine... AND WE SEE HIS SHADOW ON THE TREE!! That is DARK! Seeing his corpse’s shadow is just as terrifying as actually seeing his body on screen. Disney HAD such balls back then.

4). The animation is terrific, the soundtrack is beautiful, the character development is great, and the editing is very good. Kerchak was not good at first, but I liked how he warmed up to him at the end... and his sacrifice in saving Tarzan. That was both wonderful and sad at the same time. Kala was also a good character. Her motherly nature and strong character won me over.

5). The comedy relief characters—Terk and Tantor—were okay. I think they are on par with Timon and Pumbaa in terms of not being as funny as they should. I just wish they would’ve been better. That’s all I gotta say of them. Lastly...

6).

THIS... NOW THIS IS AWESOME! Sabor was a much more satisfying villain than Clayton. It’s mostly because I love cats, and leopards are my favorite wildcats. Plus, she posed a greater threat to our heroes... well, before more humans came along. I hate that she had little screen time and was killed off to give the main villain role to Clayton. Ughh... At least she was the first antagonist and did her part in the first act of the film. Still, I wanted to see more of her and actually have her talk. All these other animals can talk, so why can’t Sabor talk? Because she’s evil? Technically, no. Because she’s a predator who has to hunt and eat prey for survival. Again, she is an amazing antagonist. Her ferocity, aggression, intimidation, and brutality were top-notch!

Also, wasn’t she a young leopard when Tarzan was a baby? Leopards live for about 10-11 years, so once Tarzan becomes a young adult or so, Sabor should be dead by old age. Or am I missing something? Oh, well, it’s Disney I’m talking about. Never mind that then.

I give this a 9/10! A wonderful movie I would definitely recommend. Peace!

A classic. But how Clayton died was... Horrifying

Number 2 on WatchMojo's list for scariest Disney deaths. Though then again, their lists aren't always agreeable.

In this case, it is.

If the executives at Disney ever decide to make a live-action remake of this animated masterpiece, I will officially lose all hope in humanity.

I don't even know. I've seen more horror deaths than disney deaths. Though yeah, the shadow ones are a bit scarring for some

I threw up with Scar's.

He was eaten alive by hyenas.

I love this movie

Whether I knew or not, I'd be pretty laid-back every viewing.

Not even gruesome horror or creepypasta deaths make me sick.

There was a live action Tarzan, but it had nothing to do with this masterpiece so I think we're in the clear
