So, uh. Heck of a week we've had lately, huh?
Heck of a year we've had lately. Oof.
I'd been meaning to check in on this blog earlier, buuuut I didn't want to bore any of y'all on Veteran's Day. And then yesterday was Friday the 13th, and I didn't quite want to make it a horror themed blog post. That, and between the too-many streaming services I've got, only Friday the 13th Part VI was free for streaming. Go figure.
Anyway, it's November! Aaaand I haven't even bothered with NaNoWriMo this year. I knew going in that the election would throw me off of my game-- and sure enough, it did. Funny story, though. Back in 2016, after the frankly shocking election results came in, I was kind of in a depressive funk-- so I said 'fuck it, I'm just gonna write stupid fanfic.' And ... that's when I started working on The Prisoner of Zebra. So there's a silver lining, I guess? But hey, we elected a functional adult this time around!
But yeah, election anxiety aside, I've pretty much been doing the same thing I've been doing since ... March? Jeez, that's forever ago. Puttering around, staying in, amusing myself as best I can with cooking/mini painting/videogames. Speaking of which!
Just last week, I picked up Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night. It's a straight-up Metroidvania, as designed by the director of the original Symphony of the Night. Big castle, lots of monsters, exploring, etc. In the short span of time I've had the game, I've put nearly 20 hours into it already. And I haven't even finished my first playthrough, or tried out any of the bonus characters! (Though I have cheated a little bit in looking up faq's when I get stuck, 'cause some of the stuff you have to do is a bit unintuitive). It's funny, as I've got all kinds of fancy complicated games with cutting-edge graphics ... and they're not nearly as satisfying as the old jump-and-slash setup.
(Also Dominique is best girl) .
So ... yeah. I've been trying to work on some non-pony stuff, with varying degrees of success. Though I did have something of a breakthrough the other day when I found the exact word I needed for a certain purpose. Like, it might be a perfect fit. So that's nice.
Oh, I at least signed up for Jinglemas, so I guess I've at least got one more pony fic to go before the end of the year. You should sign up too! That way you may be the lucky soul who I wind up writing for!
In any case, I should theoretically go work on the stuff I kept on saying I'd work on ... or I may just go poke around the monster castle instead. Either way, should be fun, right?
I'm kind of in the same boat, only instead of a monster castle, it's the Greek underworld. Though it does lend itself to fun with certain overlapping bits...

I keep on hearing great things about Hades! And Pyre was one of the few games I’ve ever played that made me feel complicated feelings, so I know Supergiant does great work.
Hopefully it’ll get released for the PS4 before long. Though from what I’ve heard on twitter I’m not sure if I’m thirsty enough to play the game.
