Rediscovering the Magic · 7:00am Oct 12th, 2020
Wow... I forgot how funny bronies being cynical about being bronies can be. Bronies React was the funniest thing and I can't believe I forgot about it. I finally finished the last season watched all the movies etc. etc. so now I can finally enjoy stuff like this spoiler free WOOOOHOOOOO! It amazes me that even in 2019 the series put up a whopping 180k views on the season finale, and while it isn't the 2mil that we've seen in the past, it's proof that this community still means a lot to a lot of people, and that's just the tip of the iceberg that I've rediscovered.
In my humble opinion, the series took a dip in episode and story quality during seasons 4,5,6 and then picked up again after 7. 4 not as much but after that is when I found I had lost interest in keeping up, and rewatching some of those episodes I can see why. I had no problems watching the filler in seasons 7-9, I enjoyed that they were doing interesting things (especially the school concept) as well as maintaining side stories to familiar characters with cohesive writing. I slowly learned to enjoy Starlight, as well as felt connected to the main characters still.
I especially can't wait to go diving for music, that is one of the pieces of this fandom that I have continued to revisit over the years, I kept a long list of pony music in a private YouTube playlist and watched as some of my favorite pieces disappear into the void over the years (Let's Go Get Lost by Mandopony was such an emotional ballad and I miss it). I've wanted to keep up with it more but never felt the compulsion to keep watching or get spoiled, I was in limbo. Now, I have that freedom again, and though it might me a while, I will dig through the EqD archives (and other sources including people's recommendations!) looking for tunes to fill out more playlists.
As for writing, I need to start with what I know, but I also need to do something unique. One of the best ways I've learned about friendship has been through gaming competitions, so seeing as video games have been introduced to at least half of the Main7, I have an avenue I could use as long as I play the logistics right. I think starting in the realm of EqG will also help ease me back into writing the characters without having to focus on them being, well, ponies. The terminology is hard to get used to, even just reading. I'm not sure how long I want to make this piece, or if I want it to be either bread and butter or with a big magical baddie at the end. But I know I could pull this off, even if it is a warmup of sorts. There was only one other piece of fiction on here with mention of video game tournaments, and it was rock band which kinda counts, so I also know this story will be unique.
I don't know how often I want to do these blogs but it is nice to have an outlet. Although the Splatoon community is great, I can only imagine to how some of them would react to ponies on their timeline. I also know that school is kicking my rear this semester, asynchronous education does NOT work for me, so updates should be slow. We'll see though, I'm already staying up till' 3 in the morning because I'm having this much fun with ponies again :p
Alright I need to get this Latin done, I hope people will stick around, but also I need to not be in this for the infamy, I need to be in this for the community, that much I've learned from the show and my time in competition, so that will be my focus. Until next time, I'll catch you all on the flipside.
