I'm about to confuse the majority of you with our Britisms. (How we talk in Brit-Bong) · 11:57am Oct 10th, 2020
This is how we talk in Yorkshire. You likely 'aven't 'erd much or any of these if you're not from 'round 'ere, but that's how we have a right laugh, innit? What'cha make of it, Gov?
This is very useful. I can now see where some Nottinghamisms come from. Living in the Midlands, I'm sandwiched between north and south, and as a result our dialect uses a mixture of both systems.
For example; the place name 'Hucknall'. The vowels are pronounced in the same way as a Yorkshireman would pronounce them; 'oo', rather than 'uh', and 'ah', rather than 'aah'.
However, the 'H' isn't swallowed; rather than 'ooknahl', we say 'hooknahl', or thereabouts.

We all have a variation of each other's words of nonsense. There will be similar phrases, but probably a whole lot weirder than the last.
''Yorkshireman'' is sometimes ''Yorksha-mun'' or ''Yor'shaman''. Ever been to Hull? Some of us simply call it ''Ull'', cutting off the 'H'. That's kinda our entire accent, really: cutting of the 'H' and being really loose with our pronunciation.
To tell the truth, I may be from the East Riding, but I don't speak like I am. In fact, although I can, I choose not to because I hate the way it sounds. My voice is more like how you hear the Apple Family in MLP speak, very loose pronunciation but it's obvious there's emphasis on certain parts of words and sentences, like on the end. Instead of ''Driving'', it's ''Draaah-vin'' or ''Bik'n'' (Biking)
So, the ''aah'', ''ooh'' and ''uuh'' parts are more of what you hear. If you hear me talk properly and normally, you'd probably think I'm a posh twat from Oxfordshire. Nobody has heard me talk normally yet.
Random Britishism: Are ya up th' duff, love? Or 'ave ya been tellin' porkies?

I have a mate in Doncaster who greets people with 'duck'. He once announced over a skype call he was off to 'buy groceries for ahh duck'. Cue laughter from other people.
East Riding, eh? Both my parents are from the West (Pontefract and Brighouse respectively).

''Duck?'' Is he Bugs Bunny? ''Nyeeh, what's up, Dock?'' (I can do a good impression of that, oddly enough ) Or is he friends with that duck from the Lemonade Stand song? PS: Got any grapes?
Yarp, East Riding. Been here all my life. Although, my grandparents have been around. Gran's family has roots from York down to Preston and so does my grandad's family, I think. Funny, we all end up down this way to my home town. I even found a very distant relative through ancestry UK! How cool's that?
Can't say I recall being around Pontefract or Brighouse area. Not been anywhere for a while. Probably have at some point, but hard to say!

It truly is a small world; my godfather's from just outside Preston.
