So there was an event this past weekend; Operation Lion Claw: Total War. It was officially a three day event even though Friday evening was largely uneventful except for a night op game that went poorly for my team of 8.
Ok so this is how it went...
Saturday morning we wake up on site and get our gear on, then go to the rally point for both Alpha and Bravo teams. I'm in Alpha with my friends we are a team of 8. Upon arrival at the rally point, we realize two things: first that we are the smallest team on alpha where everyone has teams of 10-15 persons. Second Alpha as a whole is outnumbered 3 to 1. We had just one Humvee with a gunner turret, the enemy had three vehicles two highly mobile trucks withe gunners and a tank.
Game 1: Ok, ok so we accepted the challenge of being outnumbered and go to the spawn points. As soon as we start we realize Bravo was on us from the beginning, barely out of spawn and we met enemy resistance. About halfway through the game one of the game officials lets slip that bravo had a ten-minute head start on us. An hour from the end game Bravo is shooting into our spawn area and is forced by game officials to retreat back a way to give us a chance. We managed to flank them hard supporting our Humvee and push our way two-thirds of the way across the battle zone. Game 1 of Saturday end. Bravo won due to more completed objectives and superior numbers.
Game 2 of Saturday. They give Alpha a five-minute head start to "be fair" or at least that is what it felt like. By the end of the five minutes we are at the same position with the Humvee where we were at the end of the 1st game, we make it about 200 meters farther before meeting enemy opposition. From there our job was to be as annoying as possible for the enemy team. And we succeed until the fires started. 4 fires within an hour started because people were throwing smokes and poppers in the dry brush, one even destroyed someone's airsoft gun. We put out all the fires, and while Alpha maintained position during the ceasefire Bravo used it to their advantage and advanced while we were in ceasefire like jerks. So as a result we got pushed back because of their numbers. End of game 2 on Saturday. Bravo won due to more completed objectives and superior numbers.
Game 3 Sunday: First Bravo complained to the officials that our Humvee was taking out too many of their guys. (1-they have more guys to get shot, 2-they have 3 armed vehicles vs our 1) so we are forced to not have the Humvee during game 3. Despite having overwhelming odds, no armor support, AND the fact that bravo was listening in on our Communications, we managed to complete 8 objectives and made it hell for the enemy team to complete their 16... yeah we lost that one too. Unsurprisingly.
When you take all of that into account I'd say Alpha should have won due to the fact we had every disadvantage going in: Less Troops, Only one technical, and compromised Communications.
