Hello there. Here is my review of Sam Raimi’s 2002 film: Spider-Man. When I was kid, I watched this very film that actually introduced me to the Spider-Man universe. I am speaking truth when I say that I do not regret watching this movie as I got to know one of my favorite superheroes from Marvel. It is almost like this movie was made to establish itself as a template as to how superhero films are to be directed and produced. So with that being said, let’s begin this review:

The characters: Toby Maguire was amazing as Peter Parker/Spider-Man! I actually loved his performance! His portrayal of Peter shows us a kid who is a shy nerd, doesn’t have much friends except having Harry, has a crush on a high school girl, and being overall awkward. He is also bullied by those big kids such as Flash, and he is always picked on for being different. So you see his struggles and him trying to be with Mary Jane Watson. Once he gets bitten by a super-spider, he has all these weird powers that eventually help him become Spider-Man. But not just that but also remembering the important lesson his uncle Ben taught him, “With great power comes great responsibility.” Such an iconic quote for all of us to remember and practice even today. Spider-Man was great in this film. However, this Spider-Man doesn’t have the humorous personality that he should have. In fact, throughout the trilogy, he cracks only about one or two jokes and that’s it. Besides that personality flaw, I still love this Spider-Man. MJ is... decent in this. However, as the films went on, she got progressively worse especially in the third movie. Look, she’s a good character, but she got more annoying as the story went on. Here, she is a decent character. If only she remained that way...

Harry Osborn was great as well; by the end of the movie, he began to foster a hatred and vengeance after his father died as he thought that Spider-Man killed him when he saw him lay down his father’s body. “What have you done? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!” Man, that emotion in his voice...

All the other characters were good and well-written. The actors and actresses were doing great. Now, for the villain...

Green Goblin:

Willem Dafoe was fantastic as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin!! He stole the whole film as the superhero’s first villain here! He was threatening, intimidating, subtle, intelligent, ferocious, deadly, sadistic, cruel, powerful, and legitimately scary. He even freaked me out as a kid. The action scenes in the movie were great, well-directed, and entertaining to watch. The story was simple to follow, and it had amazing soundtracks! The soundtrack during the intro of this film is so nostalgic! Find it on YouTube. It is amazingly well-composed. Props to Danny Elfman for doing such a great job. The final fight though was just... dark and bloody. Goblin was such a beast in this! The way he punched, kicked, and brutally smacked Spider-Man around was... wow. Then when he was about to kill him, Peter wised up and fought back to stop him for good.

The character development in this film is really well done. Even to this day, Ben Parker’s death is still emotional and moving. Unfortunately, the way Peter mourned his death became one of the most famous meme formats. The internet is so weird, huh? 10/10. Any thoughts on this film?

Peace.

(Imitating Ed) I saw this movie.

I only saw the third one. But I didn't pay too much attention to some parts all the times I saw it. Plus, I was young, so I didn't get it. However, there were also parts I paid attention to.

I do not care how dated this movie looks. I still love it so very much.

I had good memories of watching this movie and its sequel on DVD many years ago.
I believe that(and the PSP game based off of the 2nd movie) is what introduced me to Spider Man.
