TrotCon Online Day 3.0: Legacy Software · 10:20pm Jul 19th, 2020

Day 3 of TrotCon Online began with me being kinda late to Brony Church. Sorry Fiaura! I did however catch the end of the panel, in addition to some much needed Zzzs, the end and had the opportunity to ask her a rather pointed question. It wasn’t meant to be about Nazis… it was actually about a person I know who while I disagree with isn’t that crazy. At least, I hope. But given the latest drama in the fandom, it was topical.

As Fiaura said, I don’t know why we have to say this, but buck Nazis. Anyhow, long story short, only you can choose the company you keep and where you draw the line with their behaviors. Food for thought.

I then watched the Law and Order: MLP panel by BronyCritic, which was a deep dive into the various crimes and misdemeanors of the Mane 6. It was a bit little silly, but enjoyable panel and I cannot wait for the second edition: Special Villains Unit next year.

Cole Howard and Brian Doe’s Q&A panels were next on the agenda. Cole Howard sat in front of his (less than useful) fireplace, in his arm chair, with a cat reclining behind his head. Not only was this the best livestream background of the con, but also KITTY! Soooo want to pet the kitty. Ahem, anyways, he talked about how meaningful it was for him to take on the role of Terramar both professionally and as a child of divorced parents. Particularly touching was his story about his first physical piece of fanmail he’d ever received. Somepony awesome actually took the time in this digital age to write him a personal letter about how touched they were by Terramar. Man I love this fandom. Anyways, Brian Doe’s panel was fun, with lots of laughs, especially when Katy showed up to crash it at the end.

The Mad Lib Pony Theater was a hoot, and a perfect end to my convention time. I’m glad they liked my suggestion of “engender” for a verb, and actually used my Garage Band suggestion!

To wrap up this blog post, I thought I would comment on the final message of Brony Church from Sister Fiaura. Since the show is now over, the final slide of Brony Church is the final clip from the show. Fiaura shared the sentiment, to which I wholeheartedly agree, that like the Mane 6 our job now as fans is to carry on the legacy of the show and it’s message. I think about legacy a lot nowadays. Perhaps it’s because as a diabetic I’m occasionally forced to reckon with the thought that my lifespan can be determined by the amount of remaining medical supplies I have on hand. Maybe it’s because as a historian I try to reckon with the legacies of people long dead. Whatever the case, I often find myself contemplating my legacy, the actions I take and how they will effect the future. That thinking led me to take part in the BLM protests… because I would have been ashamed to look those who come after me in the eye if I did nothing, if I did not act against injustice. It is true that we face many thorny problems both as a fandom and as a people in these trying times. But I think we can be proud that we are finally tackling these problems, rather than leaving them unaddressed. I hope that, whatever the future holds, we can take the lessons we have learned from our beloved pony show and let them guide us in our times of need and make the right decisions.

Overall, this was an excellent semi-respite from the problems that have been plaguing 2020. I really enjoyed the positivity and warmth that the Brony fandom and the awesome people in it. It without fail brings me happiness. While this virtual con wasn’t quite the same, I enjoyed it regardless. I earnestly hope we all stay happy, healthy, and can see each other all in person in 2021!

I'm glad it went so well. :)

Aye, indeed! And thanks. :)

I've enjoyed reading this series, Blue and very glad you had a good time. I didn't find out about this particular on line convention until I saw your first post but I've tuned in to three others previous and I quite agree with you; though it is a different experience it really does fill me with joy to share that time with others connected in and with the fandom.

this year has been and continues to be trying to all of us. But like you, I hope our legacy as fans of My Little Pony will be one of caring, understanding, love and standing up for what is right and true. I hope we met in 2021 and many times there after. Take care, my friend!
