Upcoming and active MLP fanfics, and other projects I'm working on · 12:58pm May 28th, 2020
It's been a long time since I last posted one of these. Hell, it's been a long time since I posted anything on here, period. That's not to say I've entirely disappeared off the face of the Earth. This post is meant to give an idea of what I've been up to, and what MLP-related projects I want to work on in the 'near' future.
First off, what I've been doing. I know this site is strictly MLP, but I, and likely many others on here, write other stories as well. My current main focus is my own, as-yet unnamed novel. I'm about halfway through right now, though I expect the second half to be quicker to write than the first half. Aside from that, I also have a long-running RWBY fanfic going, that is finally nearing its end after five years, and a similar irregular schedule to Meaning of Harmony. These two projects are important enough that I prioritize them over any MLP-related work at the moment.
Another project I've been working on is a Skyrim fanfic. It's a story for which I have lot of ideas, but its explicit goal is to be a very long story and as such, it's not a project that will ever really be my main priority. Rather, it's something I want to build up over time.
Then, on to MLP-related projects. I really, really, really want to continue working on Summer Sendoff. I have an outline fully ready for it, but writing slice-of-life and keeping it interesting at the same time is incredibly difficult. I like trying it, but I find myself frustrated about the pacing falling flat. That said, I do have a lot of ideas for it and I fully intend to complete it one day.
At the end of Meaning of Harmony I said I had plans to do both a prequel and a sequel. The prequel would be set in the period the Elements were actually made, and focus a lot on Parallax Dream, and the world of Equestria and how the wizards change it with their actions. The sequel, in turn, would focus on the Mane Six and Equestria itself adapting to the increased presence of Harmonic Magic again, in a way the inverse of the story of the prequel. It will also have a strong focus on Sunset's decision to not reveal to Twilight in what ways Celestia used Destiny Magic. I'm still working out overall plots for both, however, so I'm not entirely sure when work on either will begin.
Lastly, I currently plan to write a fencing-themed EQG story. I have the same sort of plan with RWBY, however, so it's still uncertain which one I think will work better. It's unlikely I'd do both, because even if the readers of each wouldn't overlap much, I'd still feel I'd be retreading old ground for myself.
Of course, there's always a chance that I'll suddenly feel inspired to write a oneshot, so for all I know I could post one of those in the near future. The thing with oneshots, for me, is that they just evolve out of a single scene I have an idea for, and sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Way back in 2011 I made around six drafts for a single AppleDash oneshot, and to this day I haven't been able to finish it. I still want to, someday, even though it's long ceased to be relevant.
Well, that about sums it up. As usual for me, it's a bit of a disorganized ramble, this post, but that's just how I write when I'm not actually thinking that hard about what I'm saying. Was there a point to all of this? Not really. I just felt like rambling a bit. See you!
