Daring Do and the secret of the Fourth Wall: Artwork, Progress, AND STILL NOT ON HIATUS. · 10:27pm Nov 17th, 2012
Hiatus? Abandoned? Eenope.
No, I have not abandoned the story. No, I am NOT on hiatus. I am just that slow.
...okay, a LOT slower than usual.
Life is throwing me some curveballs at the ... err, "moment", which has added to that, and kinda makes it hard to predict progress. Plus, I don't fancy myself being able to just sit down and start writing and stop abruptly one hour later ... especially in the evening when I'm tired ... I need more time and energy to get "into the zone", so it's really not like I can work every day.
...but as proof-of-concept, to show you that I truely am still deeply intrigued with the idea and really WANT to write this story, I made that neat lil' artwork you can see at the top of this journal. ;)

... I just made fan-art of my own fanfiction. Also, did you know that the original inspiration for the fic came from this image, which, again, I had drawn myself? ^^; Fan-ception.
"Breaking the Fourth Wall is a learning experience" ... heheh, the perfect description.
Be aware that the images do not reflect Pinkie Pie's role in the story, they are merely metaphorical.

Reassurance
Yeah... drawing comics and such actually goes faster than writing for me. Err. And I'm an especially slow artist, too. Go figure.
As a matter of fact, in the past I used to make entire flash cartoons faster than I write fanfiction nowadays.
This is "Sonic Billiard Adventure". Those of you who happen to know "Sonic the Hedgehog" may know of his ability to spindash, effectively curling up into a ball, like a regular hedgehog. SEGA then went and put him as the ball of a pinball game. I only took the idea and then went a step further - by making a 30 minute flash animation exploiting the joke for all it was worth.
It took me just about one year minus a week to finish it. That's 51 weeks. Perhaps with a 3.5 months forced break sometime in-between, but the point is that I took my sweet time.
And that was not even the only mammoth-project I produced.
Why am I bringing this up? I want you to understand something. Basically, I can be slow - but I can also be persistent.
Also, did I mention I am a bit of a perfectionist?
I want the story to become the best it can be. The concept is simply too awesome not to do it.
It may sound silly considering the lack of progress, but barely a day passes by when I DON'T think of this fanfiction.
The concept in itself has SOOOO much potential, I couldn't just let go of that!
[EDIT] "Barely a day passes by when I DON'T think of this fanfiction" ...with the exception of days where I think of one other story... See the edit below.

Current progress
Well, to all of those out there patiently waiting for chapter five... I'm sure you'll be glad to hear that chapter seven is coming along nicely!
...yupp, there's actually some stuff for chapter 6 and 7 I already wrote after "fighting" with a particularly difficult scene in chapter 5 that has so far undergone four complete revisions from scratch - but it's getting there. :)
Eh. Some writers switch stories when they get stuck. I don't do that. If possible, I skip ahead to the next scene. Or chapters, in this case. ^^;
Of course, progress at the moment still isn't predictable, so ... err.
[EDIT]: Of course, I wrote this blog-post RIGHT before I saw "Too Many Pinkie Pies". Now there's something I can't not write about either, so I'm occasionally jumping between the two stories. Talk about absurd timing.
Actually, "chapter 6" is mentionable - since I think it actually would be better off as a separate one-shot. Once finished, it's gonna be a self-contained flashback about how lil' Daring Do got her cutie mark.
So you can look out for that at, err, some point in the future as well.

HELP WANTED
In some cases, when writing, questions come up. Questions like ... "Am I making the character react according to his/her personality?", "Does this paragraph make sense?", "I want to get a certain feeling across with this scene, does it work?" and "Does Rainbow Dash own a stove in her cloud-home?"
Basically, I'd like to ask for someponies out there willing to read some scenes from unreleased chapters, answer some questions that may cause mild spoilers for upcoming chapters... possibly discussing my ideas I have for the rest of the story a bit more openly as not to spoil the "general public" - stuff like that. It's not even about grammar/spelling, although feel free to corect me. ... ;-)
It's nothing immediate, as I have to deal with some time-critical real-life stuff right now, but it'd be just so I know who to pass a note to.
I'll help if you want. I have the same problem in terms of speed, so I know them feels, bro.
Nice to know it's coming along! And yeah, feel free to ask me for help regarding pretty much anything and I'll see what I can do! (And so far as I know, Rainbow Dash's house might not even have a kitchen).

Thanks, I'll get back to you on that.
512788 Thanks!
Sorry I haven't gotten around to checking your Starfox/MLP-crossover yet, I'll get around to it eventually.
