Okay... (GvK Speculations and Spoilers) · 10:38pm Jan 7th, 2020
So, somebody at the Hong Kong Toy Fair leaked some images of some merch. Oops. If you don't want spoilers, please don't go on.
... and tell me that is not who I think it is. That better be Kiryu.
That better be the Kiryu version, I mean they have the setup and everything with the bones found in the first film.
I think this is what they meant by Godzilla vs Kong. They meant the MechaGodzilla. Now comes the speculation.
Okay, here are my theories for the film. Ghidorah's brain is tossed into MechaG, because clearly he needs some method of control right? Maybe the humans need his alpha ability to show the Titans who's boss and reign them in.
Maybe there's a team-up between the Big G and Kong, like there's some true villain waiting in the wings. Maybe they trash MechaGodzilla together.
Then they go right back to fighting. Or maybe Godzilla VS Kong refers to MechaGodzilla VS Kong.
Kong could be an invasive species to Godzilla, at least in his mind. Or Godzilla just wants to assert his dominance over the new boy. Also, Godzilla seems to have some sort of tumor on him. That could mean many things. Maybe it's a type of parasite, maybe going Burning G wasn't good for him.
There was that "For now..." line at the end of the 2019 film. That bodes ill will, and maybe this is where we finally see Godzilla provoked against humanity and MechaG and Kong team up to take him down or something. And yeah, last we saw King Ghidorah's head, it was with Jonah's boys. Maybe they build MechaG or the military steals it/the head back. Or maybe the EcoTerrorists use it. Who's to say?
Those arms, though! I've actually started referring to them as his "robo-biceps".
To be brutally honest, I really didn't think that Mechagodzilla would be a part of GvK. It was one of those things that we all talked about but I didn't think would actually happen. But here we are, I guess.
I like the idea of Ghidorah's brain being used as the control unit for MechaG. And Godzilla and Kong trashing him together sounds pretty much what'll most likely happen.
Or maybe Mechagodzilla is built by some private corporation that bought the head from Jonah's mercs. Remember what Stanton said about how "there isn't a country or company in the world who doesn't want to get their hands on one of these [Titans]."? Would it be too much of a stretch to say somebody like Cameron Winter will be GvK's big human bad?
I'm pretty sure what's gonna happen is Godzilla comes to the island because of that seismic activity (and what's that all about, anyway?), and Kong considers him and the other Titans to be invaders on his turf. The KOTM novelization establishes pretty clearly that he'd rather the outside world just leave him and Skull Island alone.
That's not a tumor. That's snap-on armor. I'm really hoping it's a toy-line exclusive thing, like Trendmasters' Power Up figures.
Speaking of which, did you notice that that one Kong figure is carrying a stone axe? And is wearing some kind of vine-made bandolier like Chewbacca or something? It's even on the board behind the figures if you look closely. What's that all about?

Okay, yeah, I can see that. Hell, I'd pay to see the animated series referenced in Monsterverse. I mean, pretty much everything else aside from Shin and that abomination of a trilogy has been referenced by this point, why not the 98 series?
Well, we see Skullcrawler figures, so maybe they're up and about again. Or maybe some idiots bombed the shit out of Skull Island again and woke someone up.
Please let it be a tumor, and have something interesting drama wise for G. Also, while I'm not sure about the bandolier, the axe I can totally see. Kong's been shown to improvise tools on the fly as the Alpha can attest to, so he probably made it. Where'd he find a chunk of rock that big though?
If they go the route of Mechagodzilla they better explain how it was built. Our current exoframe tech isn’t bad but this is like going from a glider to the F-14 tech wise. Something that big will easily be discovered and prompt a response. That looks more like a toy that will be tied in with the movie and not part of it, hopefully.

Why stop there? Why not just have an animated series for the MonsterVerse itself? I mean, if GvK ends up being the last film (and I'm setting myself up for that to be the case), it would be a neat way to continue the series.
Speaking of which, fun random fact: I'm currently working on a rewrite of KOTM, and in the post-credits scene, I plan to have it be Cameron Winter who buys the Ghidorah head instead of Alan Jonah (he's killed by Ghidorah before the Boston battle while trying to take the ORCA back from Madison in this version).
According to the KOTM novelization, they got woken back up when Ghidorah did his Alpha call.
I'm 90% certain it's snap-on armor. I've heard it said that the box labels the figure as "Mega Godzilla".
Although...I do like the idea of a story revolving around Godzilla getting sick in some way...
Good point. As for where he got it...well, Skull Island has a lot of ginormous cliffs and mountains, so it probably wouldn't be too hard for him to find something like that. But that axe looks like a straight-up caveman tool.
Call me pessimistic, but I feel like both Godzilla and Kong perish during their final fight, rendering their respective species completely extinct. This will lead all the Titans turning against each other and killing them selves until they’re all extinct. Soon, people who advocated for the destruction of the Titans will celebrate by deliberately speeding up the destruction of all of Earth’s ecosystems just For the Evulz. Cut to just ONE WEEK/MONTH/YEAR later and Earth has become a hollow shell of its former self, starting right back before the Cambrian period started, with humanity as the only living species left alive. Refusing to take the fall for their own arrogance, some humans have resorted to cannibalism and other crimes to live while most have fallen into despair of what they’ve committed and kill themselves out of nihilism. Then an asteroid hits the planet and blows it up into a million pieces, ending the world. Earth is dead. The end.

Okay... Um... what?

Give me a moment, I'm trying to... I can't even...

Yes well, to be fair novelizations and canon are... dubious.
Chances are the film will end up contradicting it somehow, in some minor way.
Yeah, it looks to be more like those Jurassic Park figures that allow you to expose their innards for battle damage at second glance. Mind you, we have yet to see if there's fallout from Godzilla going full Burning Form.
Yeah, fair point.

There's supposed to be some form of Timeskip, apparently, so I suspect tech will be moving faster than at present. Hell, it already is. We can't exactly make anything like the Argo or the Castle Bravo base in real life.
5181824
Well, it’s still a plausible, albeit far fetched, possibility.
5181868
Hey, if the MonsterVerse ends with this movie due to low box office budgets, this could be the only closest thing we got to “a final, final, FINAL conclusion.”
5181949
Sorry, but no, it's just plain far-fetched.
5182123
Well then, it shall be a crack-fix that will give “closure” to the MonsterVerse on a bitter note.
