Calm Wind

We writers do not speak. We do not hear. We have no songs. We have no pictures. We only have scripture. From words we bring images. From words we bring emotion. From words we bring life.

Quick Update (Chapter and Art related) · 1:06am Dec 18th, 2019

There has been a slight pause in all things productive the past couple of days. As of tonight i just finished being on Jury Duty. Pretty much nothing got done in this time so bear with me. I will be doing my best to pick up where i left off in restoring broken images either tomorrow or thursday and from there its back to work on the next chapter.

Much love lotta respect keep up the great work bro!:derpytongue2:

I'm permanently excluded from jury duty, totaled back and other health issues, apparently they don't want people in the jury that take lots of meds including frequent shots.
Hey judge need to stop I need to get a spinal injection, will be able to be back in 3 to 4 days

Ahhh, jury duty... so much fun... not! :facehoof:

Hope yours went well and was not mentally scarring! :twilightoops:

May the productivity fairy and writing muse be your companions for a while as you endeavour to get back on track.

same here although I got summoned for Jury Duty twice before I finally managed to get excluded since I’m physically disabled and thus just getting to jury duty is more demanding on me both physically and mentally (thank goodness I’m not in McHenry country any more or else it would be unbearable this time of the year) plus I’m restricted primarily to public transit.

the problem is if you’re a voter in the US you have to do it or else you might end up facing the judge and explaining yourself (which is even worse when you don’t have a justifiable excuse).

Same here, fines apply and possible jail time... If I remember correctly about $5000 max fine and a maximum of 3 months in the pokey.

I may be tempting fate, but after being called up three times in two years in the late 90s I have been enjoying not wasting my time sitting in the jury pool just to be rejected by the defense every time. Although the reason is not a nice one, I'm happy that you have a way to avoid the annoyance of this duty.

This was the second time i got called in and i've been selected both times to sit on the Jury :applejackconfused:

Don’t know if I should be congratulating you or commiserating you.

Being a technical engineering type, the defence is pretty keen to have me disappear as fast as possible. Thus duty is a couple of days of “State your age and occupation”... “Thanks for coming in, please go back to the jury pool room”... rinse, repeat, get your $80 cheque for 2 days wasted and wait for next time. Could be worse though, a friend spent just over two months on a rather unpleasant murder case.

I’m actually physically disabled so that’s a legit reason not to be called in however I’m not resting on my laurels it will stay that way.

Im a risk arb analyst for a hedge fund. After i stated my name and occupation i saw the prosecutor scribble furiously in his notes, then i was selected. It was a criminal case, he probably wanted someone with an analytical sense. Not that it was very hard to figure out, the case was pretty stacked in favor of the prosecution, and when we went back and i took control of the deliberations, all i had to ask was "who think's he's not guilty" and no one raised their hand. So i didnt even have to lay out all the notes i took during the trial lol. In fact, the trial was very short and i ended up getting out of there two hours earlier than i would have if i hadn't been selected at all. So ironically being selected worked in my favor.

True, prosecutors do generally like logical and analytical types... just as much as defence usually dislikes us. (not a hard and fast rule depending on the case but 99% of the time...)

Sounds like this was a pretty open and shut case and so the defence either realised it didn’t matter or saw you as a lesser of possible ‘evils’. Glad it was a straightforward case and it sounds like you enjoyed the challenge of the situation.

Yup, a honest and reasonable cause to be excused from duty but not one you’d volunteer to have just to avoid it... hence why I’d referred to it as a ‘not nice reason’. Over here they don’t automatically exclude you just for physical disability but will give allowances or exemptions if you request consideration. The friend I mentioned is predominantly chair bound and so the case was held in one of the courtrooms with chair access to the jury box.
