My Episode Review on It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown · 1:36pm Oct 31st, 2019

Happy Halloween, my friends.

This is your not-so-scary and friendly-as-always film, TV show, and episode reporter here with another review.

And today, to celebrate the Spookiest time of the year, I'm gonna be giving you all the final installment of my "Spook Spectacular" series for this year, and my fifth episode review, by analyzing one of the world's most beloved classics: "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown".

Here's the summary of it:

Every year on Halloween, Linus often waits in a pumpkin patch in order to see the 'Great Pumpkin'. This would be much to the laughter of every other kid, outside of Charlie Brown, and to the embarrassment of his older sister, Lucy.

Meanwhile, as Linus waits for the 'Great Pumpkin', everyone else has a blast celebrating Halloween, and Snoopy the Dog keeps himself on his toes as he's on one of his World War I missions.

Want to see what this classic has in store?

Well, take a look and find out.

I really must tell you guys this:

Every year on Halloween, I would often see this cartoon air on the ABC channel, until I eventually went on to buy it on DVD. It's a cartoon I've been eternally fond of, along with the rest of the Charlie Brown classics. With the nostalgia running through me, I found myself thinking, "How can I possibly say no to reviewing this classic?".

So, that's what I did.

This cartoon has tons of reasons for being so loved, and they're ones that I'll gladly explain.

The story by Charles M. Schulz, and the direction by Bill Melendaz, were all absolutely spot-on. A big reason for it is not only because of how much heart and humor they were able to put into it, but because of this:

They were able to capture the innocence and sincerity of something that can very well have happened in one's childhood and what it must've been like.

As a matter of fact, it's also something that they were able to capture with the characters. Each character featured, including Lucy, has an honesty and sincerity about them that makes them so pure, with great personality to boot. Hanging with the children this year has made me wish I could be a kid again, and I'm pretty sure many will feel the same way the more I think about it. And I'm not gonna lie, Snoopy the beagle was hilarious! He had all of the funniest of moments.

The animation was nicely done too. I love how the style of it all caught the look and feel of the comics Schulz created, and how it doesn't try to overdo itself in terms of being glamorous. It's appealing in its own way, and it even has a way of showing how hard the animators worked and how committed they were.

Finally, the music that was composed by Vince Guaraldi was marvelously accomplished. Among the many things about his music was that it was unique. It didn't try to copy the style of others, and there was even a sense that Guaraldi was having a lot of fun working on this special. The most fun of musical elements, in my opinion, was the use of piano music.

In conclusion, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" is a treasure that's worthy of being part of one's life and heart, which is especially boosted by the creativity behind it and the sincerity it holds.

So, I rate "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" a solid five out of five stars.

Stay tuned for more reviews on installments of the Peanuts series coming up in the future.
