Fun Facts about Season 10 Episodes 1-4 · 11:33am Oct 28th, 2019
So, with the debut of my Season 10 fanfiction project this weekend, I'd figure I share along a few tidbits about the inspiration behind the premiere:
1. I'm sure a lot of you were probably wondering if I was big on the series finale, "The Last Problem." My answer is that it was just...okay. It felt very bittersweet and left a lot of questions that were unanswered. Furthermore, I felt that there was still a lot of potential with MLP which added fuel to the desire to do a season 10.
2. If you want to get a proper introduction to this season 10 project, I would recommend stop watching the show after the 2 part "The Ending of the End." But, keep in mind also that I do borrow bits and pieces from "The Last Problem," and put them into this project, notably the character of Luster Dawn, giving her more of a background in the main timeline as a former student at the school of magic who moves out of Canterlot with her family after the events of "The Ending of the End."
3. Now, I'd bet you were probably all thinking, why would Twilight suffer a mental health breakdown in the first place?
Well, when I watched "The Last Problem," I was not happy with the fact that Twilight would have to move out of Ponyville entirely. For the sake of the official story, I would have to give a bone to the staff considering that the show was ending.
But, the fan in me felt that Twilight should stay in Ponyville, at least on a part time basis. I mean, think back to the Season 7 premiere and remember when Starlight Glimmer confessed she wasn't ready to leave Ponyville. I wanted to play around with that same scenario here and have Starlight echo Twilight's words to her when she gave her that memory book.
Furthermore, I wanted to hammer away the fact that it doesn't matter what status you hold or how much of an important figure you truly are. Your mental health has to come first and foremost and if there has to be some modifications to accommodate your mental health such as making the rest of the main six princesses and making Ponyville and Canterlot shared capitols of Equestria, then so be it!
Plus, I didn't like the fact that Twilight was moving out of the Castle of Friendship. It's as Starlight said in Part 2, that castle is her home and if that is where her heart is, then that's where she should be. Sure, Twilight would have the royal suite in Canterlot as well, but still!
4. Now, I'd bet you are probably wondering why I included Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke in the cast? One thing I am trying to do is to capture the aspect of an episode of the series and that includes celebrities who have certain traits to the characters I am trying to put in the episodes. Both Julie and Dick are in their golden years now and what I was looking for was to put in that grandparent like quality into the characters of Gentle Gust and Gentle Breeze. As the project moves along, you will see me put in celebrities as guest stars to capture the reflection of the characters they are portraying.
5. Next, I wanted to talk about the coronation ceremony itself. When I watched the coronation in the series finale, I was very disappointed because I was expecting a grand and elaborate ceremony like Twilight's first coronation in the Season 3 finale. For one thing, no one dressed up for it aside from Twilight. I mean, it's a big deal, you'd expect other ponies and creatures to make themselves presentable for such an occasion.
Well, I wasn't going to let that happen here!
If you noticed on one of my blog posts, you will see that I made a list of what outfits the characters were going to wear at the ceremony, although many were reusable's from the Season 3 finale. As for Twilight's coronation dress, I originally wanted to go with the one from the first coronation, but then I look at the one from the second coronation and I feel that it more or less suits Twilight here than her first one did. Plus, it reflects her natural colors more.
