Small dilemma

So with writing things out as I am I feel I have gotten pretty far. But parts of the story I am trying to keep towards what I originally write feels less real. I feel I need to take time to organize things and see what I can do to either take the story off the rails or keep it in line and just not feel satisfied with it.
In addition I am at a bit of a loss whether to change Skitters name as I originally intended or just keep her name the same. I feel because I have been using her original name (Skitters) for so long I got attached to it and it doesn't feel right to change it to Gossamer though it was supposed to represent her growth and change in the story as well as the final disconnect from her hive and Queen Nepidae.
