So in the end friendship ended up being unimportant? · 1:59pm Sep 19th, 2019
Yeah, what title said. I feel like some things that supposed to be important ended up being, like, unimportant. Friendship castle? Twilight move to Canterlot. Yeah, why care about this little unimportant thing when you can live in the grand palace? School of Friendship? It looks like she tosses this old, boring toy to Glim-Glam and completely forgot about this thing. Her unbreakable and powerful friendship with M6? Minor ending spoilers It boiled down to meet each other once per month. .
I feel like that S9 makes everything friendship-related cheap and unimportant. That it's playing second fiddle to Twilight ascension to the throne.
PS. I feel like I need to ignore everything that happens after season seven in my fanfic.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Much of this looks like Hasbro went to the writers and said, "Finish this thing. Don't lose us money."
The result is a semi-satisfying ending to a great series.
Yes, some things make sense like Twilight handing thw majority of the school's duties to Starlight. Starlight was the first Friendship student and there really was no practical way for Twilight to run a country and school simultaneously. But then, we learn that Twilight takes over Celestia's school and becomes a magic teacher herself. .. WHAT?!
The finale tackles the difficult friendship reality that friends can, and do, move away. But then they go the idealistic route that they can all come together once a month, despite making it clear that they all live very busy lives. Sure, reunions can happen, but show it to be more realistic, or start idealistic and show how it changes over time (once a month to once a year).
Seasons 8 and 9 are a mixed bag for me. They had some good ideas and premise, but something went wrong in the execution.
As far as I remember the show at least alluded that Celestia teaches at SGU. One of the books outright said so. So if Celesia can do this why the hell Twilight can't?
That another of my problem with ending and S9. Instead of allowing Twilight remain Twilight they pretty much shoehorned her in Celestia MK2 Lite role. Twilight at the end IMO doesn't feel like Twilight at all. It's just a recolored Celestia. Completely with stealing Celestia place at SGU.
Problem is that for nine seasons they droning about how powerful friendship is, how it could conquer anything, and so on, so on. But in the end their message what? That friendship can't hold a candle to being a ruler?
