New Story "Shorts of the Ponyville Blacksmith"

As the title says, I've started up a new story. It's mostly going to be a series of short stories (hence 'Shorts') that have no real depth to them, just funny little snippets.

Honestly, this is what "Tales of the Ponyville Blacksmith" was supposed to be when I started it.

    Valentine's Special

    It's been a while, huh?

Gotta say, once you fall out of a habit, it's real hard to get back into it.

    Short Story: Bungee Jumping

The wind blew across the cliff where Parody and Irish stood atop a platform extending outward, preparing to bungee jump.

Parody attached the cord to his legs, “Everything taken care of?”

Irish nodded, “Yep. I took extra care in measuring the bungee cord.”

Finished, Parody stood upright, “Alright. We good to go?”

“Yep,” Irish held out his left hand for a handshake, “Godspeed.”

About halfway through the next chapter. Word count is currently at 6666 words. Picking up speed. Should be done relatively soon.

My brain right now:

It took significantly longer than I thought it would, but the notes/rough draft of the next chapter, Sleepover, is done.

It’s what I get for invoking Murphy on this one. I went into the Quassmundus chapter believing it was going to be really difficult to write, what with all the information I had to spew out, but that one just flowed onto the page. So, I thought, “Wow, that was so much easier to do than I thought it would, surely the next chapter, where Parody attends a simple sleepover, will be easier than that!”

It wasn’t easier.

It was harder.

Much harder.

It also ended up being far, far longer than I thought it would. Considering that the chapter conceptually started out as nothing more that a “Hey, I flooded my house with poison, can I stay the night?” gag, it really just grew out of control.

For reference, both Catapult Fiasco, and Quassmundus: The Shattered World were 21 pages long in their notes/rough draft form, and ended up being 10,265 and 8,022 words long respectively.

Sleepover is 30 pages long.

Ugh.

Well, now that that’s done, I’ll be getting started on the final draft soon. Usually that goes by faster than the notes/rough draft, but I make no promises.
