I'm just gonna start out this blog post by saying the following:
NOOOO! NOT MY HEAD-CANNON!!!
So in the beginning of the episode they introduce Scootaloo's parents in an over-the-top way and I'm like:
Then her parents say they are moving away and taking her with and I'm like:
Overall the episode follows a predictable plot of
1. Think up silly idea
2. idea fails
3. try again with another silly idea
4. idea fails again
All I can say is the episode was overall lackluster in presentation, had a predictable plot, and the end of the episode with her being allowed to stay was something I saw coming from a mile away. Also the end of the episode felt over the top but then again, the CMC have helped many ponies and creatures alike so I guess this was something a little overdue for them but still... it felt waay too over the top.
In closing, this episode felt like someone at Hasbro went:
"Okay, we can't have one of our character's being an orphan in a kid's show, GIVE HER SOME PARENTS!"
And the writers are like: "But we never really thought about who her parents might be, how would we-?"
Hasbro: "Oh, and make them super bad-ass to make up for the fact you haven't introduced them for like the entire series until now!"
Writers: "Umm...okay I guess we can think up something..."
Hasbro: "Oh and add some kind of generic suspense drama like her parents taking her away or something."
Writers: "Wouldn't that be a little over the top?"
Hasbro: "i don't know! You're the writers, just make a story up! You're good at that kind of thing right?"
The Writers look at their actually really good cutie mark crusader episode script, sigh, and toss it in the trashcan. "Okay, looks like we gotta think something up on the spot folks. Let's just use the parents taking her away idea Hasbro came up with and make up something from there."
At least that's how i picture this went because this episode felt bleh to me. I'm fine with my head cannon being shattered but give me a good episode like Crusaders of the lost mark did! Not this lackluster piece of garbage!
So it took basically till it was Season 9 for Scootaloo's parents to even show up. Wow, now we knew where Hasbro's priorities lay this whole time. First we thought she was homeless, then at an orphanage... then a book revealed she had aunts... now finally in Season 9, the grand finale of this generation we learned she actually has parents. And they are just as rude as all the fanfiction by forcing her (or planning on it) to move.
