My thoughts on My Little Pony: the Movie · 3:27pm Apr 8th, 2019
I honestly thought the movie didn't go very deep into the story. The whole thing with Twilight trying to be a good princess was so season 5. And where was Shining Armor and Flurry Heart? Did they stay behind to run the Crystal Empire? I know Celestia told Twilight to find the Queen of the Hippogriffs, but why didn't they go to their other allies. They're friends with griffons, dragons, yaks, and changelings and they didn't think any of them could help them fight the storm creatures.
The only great thing about the movie was Tempest Shadow. She is probably one of the most complex villains in the MLP series. When you look at her deeper, you see a lost pony who is desperate to regain what was taken from her. Tempest's backstory was so sad, and it made sorry for her because she is the only character who didn't get rewarded for her bravery. I'm excited to see what kind of new life Tempest will take. Last time we heard about her, she was spreading word of the Storm King's defeat.
I was excited to see the world beyond Equestria. It made me so happy that they finally put in hippogriffs. They truly are wonderful creatures. I am personally glad they weren't actual seaponies, because I'm planning on putting those in my mlp fanfic. What interested me was how two of the Mane 6's new friends were animal humanoids and the third one was a hippogriff. Captain Celano and her crew were genius, because they were parrot pirates. I was interested in Klugetown and Capper. A town that thrives on selling animals with a cat as a con-artist.
But what really baffled me was the Storm King. The Storm King was a great conqueror with complex tech and stole magic from other lands. I understood his reputation, but I didn't understand his character. He acted like someone who doesn't understand magic, but was obsessed in stealing it. I honestly expected him to not keep his end of the bargain with Tempest. You would think a great conqueror would know what he was doing.
