Things to Love About Painted Wolves · 1:53pm Mar 29th, 2019
Painted wolves (or you can call them African wild dogs) are probably the kindest predators I ever heard. One thing, there related to domesticated dogs and wolves, so it's hard to not like them for that. Hating dogs is like hating loyalty, or companionship, or things that are cute. Speaking of, their pups are so cute, that you would gasp at the first sight of them. Their beautiful coats are the reason they're called painted wolves.
What really interests me about African wild dogs is how peaceful they are towards each other. Separate packs will fight each other for territory, but members inside one pack are peaceful towards each other. When a kill is made, they don't fight over it; they share it. An alpha pair is not challenged and remain as alphas till the day they die. When two dogs mate, they mate for life and stay by each other no matter what. They stay for years, when the female is pregnant, even when one dies. Their loyalty is as strong as ours.
They're also effective hunters. Not only being in a pack helps bring down large prey, but it allows them to make a kill almost every day. Unlike most predators, they don't rely on ambush, but stamina to take down their prey. They work together with complex strategies to surprise their prey and fill their bellies.
Unfortunately, with their shrinking habitats, African wild dogs are endangered. We must protect this wonderful species.
