[mature content] MY thoughts: Are Brony/Pegasister Fanfic Writers actually Weird? · 11:15am Mar 17th, 2019
The short answer is no. Believe it or not writing fanfictions makes us one of the most normal and average creative types there is. Fanfictions have existed for hundreds of years. A good example is "Romeo and Juliet" by William Shakespeare. The story written was based on a real tale of love and loss, but the story itself is fiction. But wait, I can hear you now.
"But those are humans."
You have a fair point. Here is the thing though. Aesops Fables is a book designed to teach morality to children as well as adults and is commonly taught in Sunday school in a Christian Church. The stories depict animals going through struggles and hard times to learn a moral lesson by the end. Yet, the stories are grounded in fact, they are still a fiction-based fan work. Is My Little Pony all that different?
Wait, there are grown adults who write porn fics of these marshmallow-colored animals that don't exist...where have i seen that...oh right. Hentai.
The word Hentai literally translate to "pervert" in English. Fun fact, the first hentai ever published was created by a woman. Hentai is based on sex of a perverse nature. The drawn images are made to make the reader "hot and bothered" for lack of better words. Hentai has been around for decades before bronies and pegasisters and surprise is recognized as a form of art category. I kid you not, there are schools that teach how to draw cartoon porn. Remove the pictures and use only words and holy shit...it's a smutty fanfiction. Add some ponies and you have...clop fics.
"Why are adults doing these over a Y-7 kids show made for selling toys to children?"
News flash: Cartoons and comics were never intended for children to begin with. I am not joking nor am I lying. Batman, TMNT, Spider-man, Barbie...none of it was originally meant for children. For example: Batman was known as the masked vigilante for the fact he had no aversion to killing if you got between him or his target. Ever seen Raphael remove someone's head with a sai? I have in an official canon capacity no less. Don't believe me? Feel free to check out the original comics. Walt Disney based his beloved children's movies on a little known book known as Grimm's Fairytales. Wouldn't that be fanfiction?
In all honesty, adults have been writing fanfictions that we hold as classics in literature for hundreds of years before we ever existed.
The takeaway: No matter what you write about, no matter your age Let's face it. We are honestly as average as a creative person can be expressing our love for these rainbow magic wielding friendship harbingers in a land known as Equestria. Hold your head high, put a smile on your muzzle, and let your creativity flow in confidence.
<3 you all,
