Calling it right now · 7:56pm Feb 27th, 2019
I'm gonna call the final villain of MLP Gen 4, Friendship is Magic right now.
Be warned! Spoilers!
The trailer for the final season hit earlier today.
It shows us the ultimate villain quite clearly. And that villain is ... (pause for dramatic effect) ... Queen Chrysalis!
Dun, dun, duuuuuuuuuunnnnnnnnnnn!!!
Yes, I assure you I'm quite serious. Despite the fact that Sombra is front and center in the trailer, I postulate that he is, in fact, Chrysalis in disguise.
Exhibit A:
Let me take you back to Season 9 Episode 13, "The Mean 6." What does Chrysalis accomplish? She finds the Elements of Harmony. In this trailer, we see the Elements being destroyed. How would Sombra know where to find them? He wouldn't. But Chrysalis does.
Exhibit B:
We see Sombra trying to abduct Flurry Heart. Why take her? Sure, there's good reasons for him to do that, but he'd be better served taking out Cadence directly if he was trying to take back his throne rather than angering the one alicorn who can defeat him. But it would make sense for a changeling drawn to love, like Thorax was, and especially a Changeling Queen who wanted to emotionally hurt her opponent.
Exhibit C:
With the Elements taken out and Sombra the enemy, what are our heroes likely to do? Answer: Hit him with the one remaining magical juggernaut artifact that has defeated him before, i.e. the Crystal Heart. ... Only, they wouldn't be fighting a shadow. They'd shoot concentrated love at an oppnent that is made stronger by love. It's the perfect plan for a master manipulator.
Exhibit D:
While Hasbro has had some problems with leaks, Chrysalis' initial introduction was pulled off perfectly. What was hyped in anticipation to the Season 2 finale? The wedding, and Chrysalis' appearance took everyone by surprise. Why, while ramping up for your final season, would you put your main villain front and center, especially one that wasn't exactly the most interesting to your audience? Maybe because he's supposed to fool the audience as much as the heroes?
I rest my case.
Now, I could just be totally bonkers and reading way too much into this. I could be totally wrong. So why am I telling you all this?
Simple.
If it turns out I'm right, future me gets to call the most epic "Called It" of her life! Mic dropping, sunglasses wearing, explosion going off in the background while that opening note from CSI Miami plays even though that meme should be totally dead by now. The whole shebang.
You're welcome, future me.
And I'll probably poke fun at you if you're wrong when I get to finishing that video project and its sequels lol.
In all seriousness, I'd be more surprised if Sombra is indeed the main villain.

Considering how much it's appeared in fandom, maybe it'll be a canon villain teamup? King Sombra and Queen Chrysalis working together?
...huh, that'd give me Zedd/Rita vibes.

Hmm. Well it wouldn't be the first time that MLP listened to the fans, so it's a possibility.
Though I'm kinda hoping Chrysalis isn't the main so that I can make good on my promise lol
