Writing Challenge: Non-farming Apples · 3:58am Feb 26th, 2019
Recently, I reposted Orange Pippen's Directory of Apple Varieties (and yes, I'm sharing the link again). Going back through it, I remembered some ideas for a few names I had in mind, but then I got an idea. One that would make a fun writing challenge for anyone who wants to try it. And with March being the start of spring, it's a great time to set it up.
The challenge: write a story about an Apple Family Original Character, but they cannot be a farmer of any type; apples especially. They can have any other job, and have to tie to their name, which is based on the name for a type of apple. For example, it could be about an earth pony miner named Virginia Gold
Anyone who decides to, please link it here so that I and others can see it.
This isn't a competition, and there's no prize. I just think it could be a fun way to try new things and expand the Apple Family beyond their farming roots.
Edit (02/26/19): I found something while going through that I thought was interesting. Not enough to garner its own post so soon after this, but one I definitely felt like sharing. On the list of apple varies, there's one called Edith Smith. Which means that we now have a new possibility at what Granny's actual name could be without it just being "Granny" her whole life, and still keep with the Apple naming theme.
I actually already have a few ideas in that area. Especially with the longstanding feud between Babs's mother Pomegranate Seed, necromancer-for-hire, and Pomegranate's cousin Beach Apple, who is very definitely not an assassin.
Can't guarantee I'll expand on this, but anyone else who's intrigued is welcome to borrow them if credit's given where it's due.
I have plans for a Apple soldier stationed at a snowy base named Winter Gem.
