New Year Resolution Blog · 2:15am Jan 23rd, 2019
I really don't go for the whole resolution thing. Already cracked the code on that one, if I'm the one making the rules I can always just change em and no one can stop me! Anyway, I usually can't think of anything anyway. Losing weight is the classic one, I guess, but I was already kinda working on that (20 pounds down, woo), so that's kind of disqualified! I'd say I would start writing or drawing more regularly, but honestly I don't trust myself to. So, I thought I'd try maybe blogging more often!
It's something I've been wanting to do for a bit, but never really got started. Any time I thought to, it was always because I saw someone else doing it more successfully and I was just tempted to copy them, but that's not very fun. That said, you gotta start somewhere so I'm just gonna start here!
So uh, I recently found this song and it made me really want to write princess Luna. Problem is, it's kind of sensual, and I'm not really feeling porn so much lately. What do you think? Are there many ideas out there that haven't been done to death already? I've always been fascinated with thoughts like lucid dreaming and such, so really Luna should be a much stronger inspiration for me! She was a large part of what got me so attached to the fandom when I started watching a good four years ago. For all that, I've really never written her.
It's weird to think that Luna used to be one of my favorite characters, and TwiLuna a favorite ship, since I haven't thought much about either for a while
Which of course means I'm not the best judge of what ideas are or are not done to death for her. The big plotline for her's already been handled in canon, with Nightmare Moon and stuff, but there's probably still room to do something there? I think it's less a matter of ideas being done to death and more few people doing interesting things with ideas, usually.
I mean... romance can be sensual too
That being said, there could maybe be some story material to be found in having Luna with, like, Starlight or Trixie, or other recent characters we haven't seen Luna talking to much in canon?
Luna has always been one of my favorites. There's so much of her to work with, there, and knowing her past and present, you just want her to be happy. Even though we've seen too little of her, what we have seen actually gives us both some direction and a lot of room to play in.
It doesn't have to be about sex, as such. Unless you want it to, of course. After having listened to the song, and read the comment in this and the wiki here, I can imagine the immortal princesses being the objects of devotion and attraction and even love throughout the much shorter lives of others. I wondered what it would be like to be one of those ponies... close to Luna before, maybe during, and especially after she becomes the nightmare, and how that would affect them.

Yeah, it's super weird! She hasn't gotten a ton of show attention lately, and I haven't seen anything super interesting in the realm of fanfiction recently either. I never got very into TwiLuna, but I did enjoy RariLuna for a good while! As of now, there's nobody I really ship her with, which may be why I have so much trouble writing her, because I have little experience writing anything not-shippy. I did have the inkling of Sonata developing a crush on Principal Luna though, but not decided if it would be reciprocated.
That said, Silfoe does some great Twiluna, and more recently Rarilestia comics. Formerly on Tumblr, more now on Twitter and DA.
TriLuna was actually a thing for a while, if Im not mistaken. I haven't read any of it, but I have at least one story in RiL with Luna taking her on as a student.

She's such an interesting character! She just hasn't had enough screen time lately! The problem is, I've seen plenty of fics that handle... well, everything I could think of at any rate! Guilt, acceptance, all that stuff, the dreamscape as both an invincible badass and a subject to the whims of dreams, every imaginable interaction with the Tantabus, or with Nightmare Moon... so many good ideas, to be sure! Just not any I'd feel very original writing
Ooh, that's definitely another interesting take. I could certainly see it. I kind of already take that direction with Adagio though, so it would be a bit redundant to do so with Luna at this point... Although mentioning them together in the same place does give me an idea or two.
