The ever changing nature of direction · 12:15am Jan 22nd, 2019
I’m not exactly new to writing... I just haven’t done it in a particularly long time. To say my skills were a little rusty when I wrote the first chapter for “Pandemic: Dreamers”, would be a huge understatement. That was more than a month ago at this point, and when writing it I didn’t exactly have the main direction for the story all figured out. I had little pieces here and there, but they weren’t planned to really take off until later on in the narrative. I’ve been writing the continuation for the last couple weeks (Tentatively titled: “Pandemic: Departures”) Which focuses more on the characters and how they’ll personally grow along the way. During the writing process for that, the direction I thought I was going took a sharp turn in a different way. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but as I continued writing I began to scrutinize “Dreamers” more, and started noticing how certain parts of the three chapters just didn’t really stand up as well next to what I had written for “Departures”. This was a blessing in disguise however because it gave me a better idea of what worked and what didn’t, and now I feel that I’m in a way better place overall. To cut to the chase, I’ve begun to rewrite the first three chapters of “Dreamers” to better reflect the direction that their stories are going, and the first of these will be Silver’s chapter. The revised chapter has a bigger focus on Silver’s own personal struggle with the change that he’s endured, and introduces an important character in his story. I haven’t published the changes yet, however I will be very soon so keep an eye out for that!
(And as a special peek behind the development curtain, here are a few early sketches of Silver from rough to almost final design)
