April chapter updates — an update about updates · 8:03am Apr 9th, 2022
I’ve been running into a road block while working on some of my current projects lately and thought I’d write out a little status update for where I’m at story update wise for this month. This is going to be a mixed bag in terms of update timelines, but I always like to share where I’m at with my work anyways, even if it’s the kind of content that maybe one or two people actually enjoy reading about.
Without further ado, here’s a behind the curtain look at where my current projects are at right now:
Outcasts: chapter 12 is roughly half written, but needs a lot of work still. This story has maybe 4 or 5 more chapters left to work on, and one more that needs to be fully written too. I had a longer second half planned out originally which would have taken the concept even further than where it’s at now. However, the fact that the story hasn’t really been hooking anyone lately means that I’ve decided to shelve that expanded ending for now. The story is going to have a definitive ending point and an epilogue that sets up that second half, but for now it won’t be included in the current version of outcasts. If there’s enough reader demand then I might bring it back up sooner.
Night Terrors: I don’t have very many new updates to share unfortunately. In terms of the story itself, I have a full outline for the rest of the story, and it will have a pretty solid ending. Originally that ending would be the end of “act 1” and there’d be two further acts that built off of it as one large story, though those will probably get cut out and shelved for the time being.
Speaking of that second act, I have a work In progress story that takes what would have been act two of night terrors and makes it it’s own thing that’s still connected and has a place in canon, but also sets up a separate continuity to explore more story ideas with if I really want to. Unfortunately. This project’s hit a bump in the road so I don’t have a planned release date yet. It’s going to be a shorter one shot styled story that’s loosely modeled on and structured similarly to how classic twilight zone episodes were, and I like the concept for it a lot so far, even if it’s uncharacteristically dark compared to my usual armories.
Odyssey Rewrite/place making: This is still being picked at but it’s been slow going lately and probably won’t see lightning fast updates. While the bulk of the work is taking each existing chapter and fleshing it out with more detail, I still want to give it the proper care it needs and deserves, so I don’t want to commit to a rigid schedule just yet.
The obvious trend in this news update is that a lot of my current projects are very up in the air right now. I don’t know if it’s because I’ve been busier IRL, or just felt insecure about my writing, but my creative drive and motivation the last few days has just started to falter a bit. As I sit here digging through my notes and documents I can’t help but feel a little annoyed on a personal level because with at least a couple of these projects, I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and had a very good idea of what was left to do. However, for some reason or another I just can’t really find the motivation I need to continue writing them.
Where this all is leading is that I’m not officially going on hiatus, but chapter updates and project release dates will probably be up in the air for a while pending my decisions for what I want to do with each of them. Hopefully this isn’t a disappointment to anyone, and if it is please feel free to let me know. For all I know, I could just change my mind next week and decide that I’m continuing to rapidly work on my projects and resume normal schedules, so we’ll see where the future takes me.
Once again, thanks to everyone who reads and comments on my stuff, it really does mean a lot to me.
Gotta take time, if you try to force creativity, it usually ends up... well.. not great. So definitely take the time you need :D
