Well, it's that time of year again. The time when I go to the well of ideas and try to draw up a bucket full of fear, and hammer it into a decent scary story.
This years offering is slightly different than some of my others. I was hoping for another story along the lines of The Longest Night https://www.fimfiction.net/story/277668/the-longest-night , but as I tried to write it, it just wasn't working. To me, Apple Bloom and her friends have gotten older than the young fillies that used to try everything to get their cutie marks.
That I realized, was what had been tripping me up. I was trying to write a story that was frighting to children. But what I actually had on my hands was a story about teenagers. A good old fashioned teen slasher story. Filled with all the usual things that make a good horror movie work.
