Based off the season 8 finale
In wake of the loss of the worlds magic by Cozy Glow's scheme, an age of War has begun factions have risen each with the goal of bringing about a new age and salvation to the world.
Steel Battalion
"Magic is dead long live the age of technology"
lead by former engineers of the late storm kings army with Technolgy, guns, and iron they seek to bring an industrial revolution to the world.
Gods hand
"With the aid of the gods, our world shall be reborn!"
A minotaur claiming to be the avatar of the gods seeks to bring magic into the world using twisted rituals of sacrifice to do so. with his army of followers and zealots aiding his cause.
The Empress army
"Friendship is power! With it, I shall crush all the fools who would oppose me!"
Led by the newly crowned Empress of Friendship Cozy Glow her followers fight off the invading forces of The Steel Battalion and God's hand while expanding their new empress rule across the land.
Harmony's light
"Hope is not lost yet,"
Lead by the four princess's they seek to find a way to stop the fighting and properly restore the world's lost magic but with so few in number at their side is there any way they can survive and achieve their goal?
Like the idea... though I would think it would be 3 princesses not four since Twilight should still be in Tartarus, or are you counting Cadence's child. After all a big part of Cozy Glows Plans required that Twilight be permanently out of the way so she could take over the school and become the Empress of friendship. That said this sounds like a great idea for a story. would probubly add more factions though, like one or two. the two new ones you created are really interesting so i would love to see what else you could come up with, like what is Chrysalis doing?
I do hope that we find out what happend to the other Races and what they are doing, I mean they would have lost their magic to, the Yaks would be okay but the changelings and Dragons have lost major parts of their identity (shapeshift and breath fire respectively) if not the ability to fly. the Griffins are rather mercenary so I could see members joining all factions for good pay though some will have leanings. the Sea ponies are screwed because the jewel that let them switch back and forth is dead leaving them stuck as what ever they were at the time... oh and the Crystal empire doesn't exist since the heart is without power (could actually see quite a few Crystal ponies joining the Gods hand in hopes of revitalizing their crystal and saving their home)

Question: will you be setting the timeline of the story forward in the future, about 3-5 years, so that the factions will have time to be built up. It's because you can use flashback chapters to go into each faction's origin and he w they became what they are.
An example I'm thinking of is your Steel Battalion where in the chaos of the magic loss, the battalion started as a coalition of industrialists who banded together for the purpose of providing aid to the population and then becoming militarized when conflict with the other factions began to escalate.
