    It's been a while...

I'm not sure where to begin, really. Most of that is because I feel like I'm entering a dead silent room and the hinge has let out a piercing squeak to announce my either wanted or unwanted presence, but here goes.

    Alright, we're ready to go!

Ok folks, chapter 17 is now broken down to 4 parts for easier reading, the first being the quickie "Uncle Titus" I published back in... oh jeez, New Years Eve?! Yeesh. Anyway, the three parts I've been working on have been given the first proofreading pass. I'll do one more after taking a quick break so I don't inadvertently skim over it as my brain knows what I meant to write not

    Quick question regarding Ch. 17

So, to avoid what would easily be a 60k word eye-melter, it looks like the chapter will be divided into parts, the flashbacks ("Memories of Making Friends" featuring Twilight and "A Visit from a Princess" for Luna's first story time with Titus) and then Lyra as well as Geirr's scenes ("Plans and Cages") to round it out. My question to you is:

    Quick update

Everything going as planned! Finished Lyra's segment last weekend and this weekend I'm finalizing Geirr's scene (he's a nasty boi). After that I'll be moving on to the proofreading!

Progress Update 2: Ch. 17 · 5:16pm Sep 26th, 2018

For the start of Ch. 17 I'm writing a flashback that occurs right as Titus leaves the library for the press conference that Ch. 6 ends with (thanks long time reader @The Ohvist for suggesting this!). After that disaster Twilight and Applejack are escorting Titus back to where his ship had crashed in the Everfree, per the request of Princess Luna that he be given time to adjust to Equestria, when they have a small conversation. I just want to say it's awesome when you realize something small you wrote with zero intention of tying in elsewhere just falls into place nearly perfectly with something else. Remember this from Ch. 13?

He cut her off with a slow wave of a hand. "Na, just when you're able to get to it as I'm probably done with work for the day anyway; the only things I really was looking to accomplish today was marking the outer search boundary and setting things right between us. What with one of my ion drives askew in its housing it's safe to assume I'm going to be here for a while..." Titus stopped and leaned to look over one of Twilight's shoulders to cast a quick glance over the ponies that had begun congregating a small distance behind her, "Maybe long enough to make a friend or two." At that mention Titus caught both of Twilight's ears just barely rotating forward.

That last bit is what I'm talking about specifically. The conversation I have between AJ and Twilight was initially written as a stand-alone and it wasn't until I had moved on to the next scene that I thought I remembered Twilight having that reaction so I went back and reread chapters until I found it. Fleshing out how their friendship started is proving to be a great deal of fun and needless to say I was tickled that we get to see why she reacted like that.

So, if you haven't guessed yet I'll just say this chapter is going to consist of several of Titus' flashbacks during his magically-induced unconsciousness as the griffons sneak him across the countryside. Maybe I'll do Luna's first visit to the ship for stories, seeing as it's always being talked about? I don't know, could be fun and enlightening but it's something to think about. Once I'm done working through those I move on to Lyra as she arrives in Ponyville for the data she needs for her plan and start laying the foundation of how that will play out which ultimately goes in a very fun and exciting direction. (Hint: "Create designation: Lyra, security clearance level one..." Hmm...) Hope that's vague enough for ya because that's all you're getting! :ajsmug:

Questions? Comments? Guesses in regards to the hint? You know what to do; let me know below or via PM!

Do I still have time to write up my Interview Question? I have had limited time and only JUST got caught up at the time of this post.

Yup! That's still a good ways off. The interview will take place after Titus is rescued, and with my intent to have Titus wake up toward the end of Ch. 17 to discover his situation at the earliest the interview would be in Ch. 19, which would require I somehow keep the whole GRA captivity arc in Ch. 18.

I think, don't quote me on that, but needless to say you have time.

What DOES GRA stand for? Griffin Republican Army?

I will try and get one written up, but I don't know if I will be able to in time. I have been busy as of late >.>

Yup, the G.R.A. is an underground militia or terrorist organization (depending on who you talk to) and is based off the real-world I.R.A.. It's not supported by any sizable portion of the griffon population due to their methods although there is also disagreement withing the organization's ranks on how they should be pursuing their goals; more on that later. The following is something you'll also find in the actual story once it's touched on so you're free to wait until then, if that's your preference, but when originally coming up with the concept I wanted a group with a motivation somewhere in a grey area.

The group is well entrenched and has chain of command ending with The Elders, and although they have established the resources they've been fighting an uphill battle. For nearly a century and a half they have been conducting attacks and sabotage strikes against the King's government to have the independent northern coastal lands relinquished after Griffonstone marched their armies north/northeast to expand their borders, bringing the once ungoverned populace under the king's rule and subjugating them to the laws of the crown while securing resources and revenue for the kingdom. Farm and grazing lands were torn up and taken from long standing families for infrastructure to be built and military outposts were constructed along the new border with the Skybreaker Mountains (the Thestral homelands) which naturally put the clans even more on edge.

4944436

Huh, okay that was just a GUESS at the name. Any way moving on!

So I assume His kidnapping (Foalnapping?) and the attempted Assassination was done by a internal Splinter Group of the GRA? I can't see them attacking what would likely be their biggest Supporter, methods used or not, in this case.

4944591
Supporter? Do you mean Equestria/the Princesses or Titus?

It is late so forgive me if I misunderstood, but keep in mind (from Ch. 11) the Princesses argued and won a border dispute and Titus was the one who passed the information along to them that got the negotiation settled between the Equestrian government and the Kingdom of Griffonstone, meanwhile what the GRA sees is more griffon lands being taken. The GRA is very much a militaristic resistance force - they're their own splinter group from the general community outcries from the last couple of generations that got nowhere peacefully - and their primary goal is to make holding the griffon lands that the King expanded into so costly that it's no longer strategically viable to do so by continued attacks on the King's supply lines to his military installations (barracks, training facilities, etc.) and morale-destroying tactics of guerrilla warfare (roadside explosives for said supply lines, letter bombs, etc.) meant to target the troops stationed there. Titus certainly has advanced weaponry and equipment that would help their cause and even likely turn the tide of the whole resistance...
