A Cold, Cold Thing... · 9:48am Sep 17th, 2018
A young, golden furred colt trotted through the moonlit streets in Ponyville. Not a soul was awake, and he wasn't sure he cared. He kept his silver eyes straight ahead, even though they were glazed over with contemplation. A set of headphones rested on his head, a certain song playing through them.
His deep blue tail flicked to the side as he let out a mutter of, "Buck you, I'm not doing that." He kept trotting, aimlessly, no other sounds reaching his ears but those in his head and those from his headphones. He continued muttering. "Why would I do that? I'd just be another criminal."
His mindless wandering soon brought him to Sugarcube Corner, and he stopped in front of it. He looked at the windows near the top, where he knew a certain Pinkie Pie would be sleeping. His tail flicked to the side again. "I don't care how easy you think it'd be to manipulate her. I'm not doing it." He turned around, and trotted away.
He passed by a certain music store, stopped, turned around, and stepped to it's doors. AS he looked through the glass of the doors, images flitted through his mind. Images of a golden furred colt talking and joking with a white unicorn with purple shades. Images of playing a piano with a dark grey, sophisticated mare playing a cello next to him.
He turned away swiftly and started to head somewhere else. Once again, he was muttering. "They're my friends. I've said that a thousand times." He kept walking, silence ensuing for another stretch of time before he continued muttering again. "Sometimes you just have to grin and bear it." He repeated that phrase thrice, each time with more emphasis.
He soon found himself staring down the road leading to the Castle of Friendship and School of Friendship. He stared for a time he didn't even feel like counting, then slowly sunk to his plot, staring at the ground. He eventually looked to the Castle, seeing a few lights on from the windows. He glanced to the moon, then back to the lights. With a sigh, he got up, turned around, and headed the opposite direction.
He walked around the town until his hooves got sore, and then, finally, he came to a decision. He looked to one of the hills beyond the town, and started to make his way there.
When he made it, he briefly looked back at the town. He frowned. "...I'm sorry, everyone." And with that, he walked out into the night.
This is a brief showcase of a story I've had in the works ever since I first started on this site. Currently, this is the 50th rewrite. Yes, I counted. Anyway, it's something I was wrestling with on whether or not to make a full on story or just a one-shot, but as of this morning, I've decided that it will be turned into a full on story.
I will admit, this one is full of hidden meanings and lots of depressed ponies, so if that's not your thing, that's fine. Anyway, I hope you all will like it in some form or another. It should be out eventually.
Until then, thank you all for continuing to read my stories, it really warms my heart.
