I desperately need editing help!

I just finished writing my entry for the Sunset Shipping Contest: Journeys, and it's about 9500 words long. I will be editing it myself, but I really need someone to look at things with an outside eye. The story takes place in an alternate universe, and I wonder if I explained the world and differences in the characters well enough. That's probably the biggest thing I need help with, but if anyone is able to help with wording and grammar, possible story/chapter title revisions, and scenes/explanations you think should be added to the story, that'd be great too!
