My Thoughts on 'The Road To Friendship' (s8e19) · 2:39pm Aug 22nd, 2018
Oh man, guys. It's been a while since I've done anything on here. But more on that later. I was able to get caught up on the last couple episodes this past week, and now it's time to talk about The Road To Friendship.
So, you know, I hope you enjoy my thoughts on what may be a new top 5 favorite episode of the entire show.
Okay, so maybe I'm a little biased because this episode featured two of my favorite characters of the entire series. Seriously, the only thing keeping them from being my top two favorites is the fact Rarity is so awesome and constantly shifts between 2 and 3. Anywho, let's talk about this episode:
The moral of it was fantastic! A lesson I have learned many times and rings true for people of all ages.
Sometimes you need a break from your friends.
Look, I love my friends. But with a lot of us, if you trapped us in the same room with each other for more than a couple days, we'd rip each others' throats out. Not because we don't love each other, but because, as Trixie and Starlight told us, there is such a thing as too cozy. The message was presented in such a way that it was appealing to me as an adult and was very to the point. I loved it.
The characters themselves were amazing. Trixie is always great with her cockiness and attitude, but she's also growing little by little each time we see her. Becoming more and more accustomed to friendship.
Starlight, on the other hand, was just as wonderful as always. She was gloriously sweet while also letting her inner-bitch slip out a few times, as we're all prone to do. She loves Trixie and made that evident, but it didn't prevent her from making mistakes and being just as cranky as her counterpart during their long road trip together.
The humor in this episode was on point. It was funny without shoving it in your face and it used a lot of dialogue based humor as opposed to giving us visual gags aplenty (although there were some fantastic ones). I love the way these two characters are written compared to rest of the cast, especially Starlight because everything comes out naturally and doesn't feel scripted at all. That's part of the reason I love writing her so much. It really helps sell her character and makes almost every funny thing she says land with the force of a great typhoon.
As far as knocks on the episode, I feel there were a couple spots with some awkwardness and we didn't really get to see the whole purpose of the trip in the first the place, but if I said any more than that it'd be a major spoiler. That being said, there wasn't really anything to make me upset at this episode for more than a micro-second.
I LOVED IT!
Final Score: 9.5/10
Yessss, I loved the episode so much! If you love these two together then honestly you're going to end up LOVING this episode. Haha, lots of bias, but yessss, I enjoyed the fun adventure that they both went through with this and the genuine interaction with these two, how they get on each other's nerve and the outcoming solution done. The song also is just still stuck in my head, I love it ahhhh, One of my favorites for sure
