I WAS about to go to sleep, but now I'm staying up trying to calm her down and get her to stop crying.
What do people who spread that bullshit get from it anyway?
Do they just get off on the idea some kid superstitious and gullible enough to think it's real might come across it and get scared half to death? Is that it? Do they just like terrorizing people?... Fucking assholes.

I think it's the thrill of being scared a lot of them enjoy. Maybe they actually think it's frightening and repost it to spread that fear; adrenaline junkies sometimes tend to forget that we normal people aren't into the whole fear and adrenaline thing.
In any case; I've found a hug and soothing words are valuable, but more than that is the offer of protection. Is it possible for you to offer to stay in the same room and/or bed as your cousin to help ease her fear? Alternatively, give her something to distract her mind from the fear - sit with her and tell her a story about your life. Read her something less frightening, perhaps, or watch a show that'll ease her mind.
I hope you get some rest soon; the little munchkin too.
