Printed version of "The Monster Below" Update 14 - Preview pictures and another cover · 10:34pm May 5th, 2018
The proof copy of 'The Monster Below' arrived in the mail today, giving me a chance to go through it in search of errors. And what do you know, after all those years of revising, a few slipped through! Thankfully, they've been corrected, and the PDA file updated. Here are some preview pics (I'm not old, btw; just funky lighting on my hand):
With regards to the cover design, I've settled on a final color scheme for the series: Black for the first, Teal for 'Nightfall', and Red for 'Sunfall.' With that in mind, here's the newest version of the cover:
I will order another proof copy to make sure everything is absolutely, 100% ready to go, and start work on the hardback version of the book.
We're getting closer to the finish line!
Now that is a cover to my liking.
Good you caught those errors, but be sure to leave at least one or two, we don't want to be too perfect, right?
Nifty!
Congrats on having a honest to goodness physical copy in your hands. Looks fancy.
You should be proud.
What software did you use? What is a PDA file? Not sure about the cover art and font choice on the cover. Those inner margins look a bit small (text disappears into the spine).
Always nice to see more physical fimfic printings though ;)
The cover is certainly better than before, but it still looks quite bland. I'm in no position to criticize others' work if I can't make a better cover for you. However, please join djazz's book production Discord server, maybe some people over there could provide some help on this. This fic means quite a lot to me, and I'm really frustrated that I can't do much to make this physical printing more presentable. https://discord.gg/qxGgser

I am! It's amazing to hold a physical copy of the story in my hands after working on it for so long. There are no words to describe how incredible that is.

I downloaded a template from Lulu and put the text in via Openoffice without adjusting the margins (they look small in the pictures, but it's less noticeable in-hand). As to the cover art and text, I'm going for an aged-leather look similar to the covers of the extended editions of the Lord of the Rings DVD's/Blu-Rays. The text was difficult to pick, but the ones in the preview picture worked the best out of the options available.

Hi 49616e
As I've said elsewhere, I'm going for a look similar to the aged-leather of the Lord of the Rings extended edition DVD's and Blu-rays. I can understand why some may find it plain and simple, but I personally see is as a sort of aged elegance, as if this were a three-part story that has been sitting in an Equestrian library somewhere for a century, and has now been brought out to read. Because of that, I will not be changing the cover. I apologize if that's upsetting, but after spending a little over five years of my life on this book, I just want to finish it and get it to those who have been waiting equally as long to have a copy in their hands.
