this is awesome I actually only started reading the manga like 6 months ago and was wondering if it would get an anime adaptation.

What I love about this is how they fantasy hero fights fantasy monster motif here is presented with a 'reality ensues' narrative, while at the same time not ATTACKING the genre not trying to shame the audience for enjoying it. Instead, we got monsters and adventurers who both know there can be no peaceful reconciliation, and thus both sides use every move not in the play book to win, there are no 'rules of war' and no referee. Either you return home alive, or you don't. And it's made clear that most newbie adventures are so traumatized by their first adventure that they retire.

And we're shown WHY 'developing doomed characters' has a POINT, because it helps us realize these aren't just NPCs here to die to make the hero look good, these are heroes who got in over their head and didn't want to waste time with that 'clear out the cellars full of giant rats' first.. when those battles are NEEDED for them to learn to work together as a adventuring party, and give them breathing room to make mistakes which intelligent and sapient enemies wouldn't let them live to learn from!
