The Real Pink Pony: a song interpretation · 6:25am Apr 24th, 2018

if I think of Equestria as a virtual Utopia, this song becomes even more interesting to me, because Pinkie Pie seems to highlight things that would still be an issue even in this Utopian world. more importantly, if I think of the Pinkie Pie in this song to be the same Pinkie Pie in the show, that makes that character incredibly interesting to me. especially if I imagine that she has these thoughts and feelings during the show.

in interpreting this song, I've highlighted quite a few points of interest. here we go:

>Y'all act like you've never seen a pink pony before
in Equestria, there could be prejudice against a pony due to their color scheme. I imagine it's not similar to racism, but still perhaps a more extreme version of fat shaming, treating a person poorly because they're unattractive, etc. pink may not be a socially acceptable color. remember Mayor Mare and her grey hair?

>Eyes all on the floor, like Mrs. Cake is being a whore
the average Equestrian is afraid to look these problematic social issues in the face because every pony is so habitually nice that they feel as though they're being mean if they attempt to address these issues. so... they look the other way

>Apples to the core? That apple core is rotten now!
double meaning:
1. Pinkie Pie refuses to be unnecessarily nice. she will be nice because she is a nice person, but she will address problems. this may be seen as bad in Equestrian society; she embraces "having a rotten core".
2. by being so nice that they fear giving constructive criticism, Equestrian society rots

>But no worse than what's going on on Nickelodeon
she may be a bit wild, weird, and impulsive, showing the bad within herself. but Pinkie Pie is an individual; there is good and bad within every individual. fictional television is far more of an issue than she is, because television can actually be edited and made presentable first so that more good than bad is shown. but I think her point here is that ultimately, nothing much is wrong with Nickelodeon, just as there's nothing wrong with her.

>Sometimes I wanna get on TV and just cut cheese but I can't!
she wants to be able to do that which could be perceived as bad, but this is forbidden socially, and especially on TV. and this is considered especially bad in Equestrian society, seeing as how there aren't any extremely bad criminals there (minus those that committed war crimes)

>Nor can Cheese cut Pinkie
double meaning:
1. TV in Equestria is so heavily censored that even the slightest hints of murder is strictly forbidden.
2. just a joke. ex. [Pinkie] cut the cheese = fart, and Cheese is the name of an actual pony.

>My plot is in your face! My plot is in your face!
double meaning. the second meaning will be shown in a moment
"Whatcha gonna do about it?!" do something about these issues! face these issues head on! don't blink, don't ignore them, address them! ex. if someone puts their plot in your face, you wouldn't behave timidly, and you wouldn't ignore it. you'd do something about it because in that situation, you'd be forced to. give other issues a little more attention just as you would this one, because in that manner, you'd be able to manage these issues and stop them into reaching a point where they become really bad.

>My plot is in your face! My plot is in your face!
>Clap your hooves and do a little shake!
>And that's the dance move we teach to little kids
>And we expect them to not know what twerking is
Equestrians show things to children and they're not careful about what it is that they show them. in the eyes of the adult, such a dance is this cute little thing "for children", but the reality is that they have no clue how those children see it. two young fillies doing "Clap your hooves and do a little shake!" in front of sexually aware colts might later turn into twerking (considered an uncouth dance by Equestrian standards) for said colts, in order to gain their attention.

>Of course they're gonna know Friendship is Magic
>and everything that's tragic in the world is not run by little girls
>We ain't nothin but horses!
ponies have a great deal of control over a lot of things. Celestia can control the rise and setting of the sun, Luna controls the moon. Pegasi control the weather. Equestria has technological and magical advancements. but ponies only have about so much power in the grand scheme of things. taking Celestia for example, she may be a god, and she may be powerful, wise, and intelligent, but she's not omnipotent nor omniscient; even she has moments of weakness, can make mistakes, has things she's weak at, and has things that even though she excels in, others excel in them even further.

>Well, some of us donkeys
>that can't be bothered to sing on key
a donkey's sounds don't sound very musical, while a horse's neigh can. one could say this is Equestrian racism. another could say that Pinkie Pie pokes fun at everyone in every way, including by their species.

>But if we can show a male and a female pony's marriage
>Then why can't two female ponies just kiss?
this one's pretty obvious. even in Equestria, same sex love is kept to the shadows.

>Fluttershy doesn't have to be loud or annoying
>But I do...
>Mainly because I get paid to
in this regard, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie are exact opposites. Fluttershy is quiet and pleasant, compared to the loud and annoying Pinkie Pie. Fluttershy tends to be worried and perhaps even put off by other people, whereas Pinkie Pie makes it her goal to meet every single individual possible. she notices this difference, but still acknowledges her as a person. they're just different, and that's okay. Pinkie Pie has her thing and her reasons, biological and otherwise, and Fluttershy has hers. ultimately, these lines are more about Pinkie Pie being critical of herself in a humorous way than about Fluttershy.

>But Pinkie Pie darling, you're just so weird!
>So? Don't you know that's why I'm feared?
she's saying that her weirdness is what makes others respect her.

so... what makes people respect you? think about that. seriously.

>I'm like a head trip to watch!
>Whether you watch me for my personality or for my crotch
she's saying that she's interesting in multiple ways

>Oops..
>Did I say "hand"? I meant hoof!
>Keeping in with the whole anybody/anypony spoof
obviously, she finds it ridiculous that we have words like "anypony" or change phrases such as "on the other hand" to "on the other hoof" in order to capture things from the pony perspective rather than make effective use of language in order to not sound weird. would a bird say "on the other wing"? just say "hand". everyone knows what hands are, how they work and what they can be used to do.

>It's funny, cause at this rate when we're cancelled
>Us ponies will live on through brony artist's pencils
>Twilight will still be crazy, Dashy will still be lazy,
>Flutter will still sniff daisies, Applejack's dog will still have rabies
>And Rarity will never say "maybe" to a date with Spike
>Man, take a hike to Haiti, find a new lady
>Maybe that dragon
>that Fluttershy was raggin' on will be at Bronycon
here, she's rattling off traits these characters had at one point (with the exception of Applejack's dog; that one's just a joke), but either no longer possess or have developed beyond being just that. however, bronies capture the earliest versions of these ponies in their art because this is when the fandom was really into it. and so, the traits of the characters from those time periods are what tends to be captured in art because these versions of the character are what people want to see. so that subtle character development? ignored. those problems that the show leaves unaddressed? they stay that way, because it's what people remember. it's the nature of life to change, and yet these characters are loved (or hated) not because of how they've changed, but because of what they were when we first learned of them.
