Season 8 Premiere · 11:30am Mar 25th, 2018
I just watched the Season 8 premiere.
First off, the things I liked.
I love the new characters. I think they are written really well, as they reminded me of my own students. I'm especially fond of the Changeling girl and Gallous, the Griffin boy.
Also, I wanna see more of Grandpa Gruff.
I also like the concept of them opening a school and I'm looking forward to what they're going to do with it.
Now, the cons.
As an upcoming teacher myself, some things really rubbed me the wrong way.
First and foremost, the EEA. This organization must have the strictest guidelines for class, I've ever witnessed. I get why Rainbow's and Pinkie Pie's lessons got toned down, but what was wrong with Fluttershy bringing the spider along.
An organization that governs over schools should know that students need their space to breathe and have fun once in a while.
This could've been avoided if it was revealed that Twilight was gollowing the book too strictly and Chancellor Neighsay shutting down the school for that reason. But no, the problems started, because she followed his rules.
This makes me wonder how any other school in Equestria is functioning. Or if the other schools just aren't following the rules as strictly.
And as for Chancellor Neighsay, I kinda like him and hate him.
He reminds me more of a general than a head of Equestrian schools. Maybe there really was a war, between the nations not too long ago and he fought there. That would explain his attitude toward the other races. Maybe the war changed his outlook on how children should be taught.
I really like his character from an analysis/potential lore standpoint.
But I absolutely loathe him as a teacher. I may not agree with my country's immigration policy, but I swore to help every child in my classroom as best as I can. Immigrant or not.
But I also see where he's coming from. Equestria has constantly been under attack, so who's to say the other nations aren't trying to sneak a spy in? I just wished they worded it better.
7/10 Premiere for me.
