What would a prequel to "Molten Gold on a Spring Evening " by "coleisfantastic" look like?

It's something I've been thinking about since I read the original story. Part of why it's a fascination for me is because of the numerous questions the story leaves behind:

  1. Why is Scootaloo a dragon?
  2. Why is Scootaloo still learning to control her fire breath? Does she lack draconic instincts? Or, is it simply an acquired skill?
  3. Why does Twilight need to change her back to a pegasus once a week?
  4. What is Scootaloo's feelings about being a dragon?
  5. Who's stalking her?
  6. How long has Spike been feeling attraction to her? And, what does that say about his attraction to Rarity? Is one a crush, and the other a natural attraction?

I suppose maybe such a fic could look like this:

  1. Scootaloo's a dragon because she is cursed with a very ancient, powerful, and more importantly persistent curse... Something that might be analogous to Lycanthropy.
  2. Obviously if Scootaloo was transformed into a dragon then she may not have developed the necessary instincts. This, of course, would mean that she would need a coach to help her control her newly dragonized body... Someone like Spike or Twilight (although more likely Spike, since Twilight would be looking for a cure, and is not a dragon herself.)
  3. The answer here would be that 1) Scootaloo doesn't want to stay a dragon, or it is not safe for her or others for her to do so. 2) Twilight's cure is temporary, becasue Scootaloo's curse is persistent. So, they would need to do it frequently.
  4. I suspect Scootaloo's feelings on being a dragon might be based upon a few factors. 1) how tramautic was her transformations? 2) How attached is her identity to being a pegasus? 3) Is there any serious downsides to being a dragon (other than she has trouble controlling her fire breath). 4) how risky is it? In the original story there seemed to be some kind of stalker after her, so maybe her safety is a factor.
  5. This is a bit open ended, but I somewhat imagine someone especially creapy, and persistant. A tabloid reporter, that has developed an unhealthy obsession with "Ponyville's mysterious new dragon".
