Ori and the Blind Forest: No Ability Points · 1:16pm Mar 9th, 2018

Since I'm continuing to play Dead Space 3 episodic-style (no more than 30-60 minutes at a time) I returned to Ori for a third time, and set out to complete the game without spending any Ability Points for the Elite achievement.

Didn't really think I'd do it in one night.

Clocked in at 3 hours, 41 minutes, 15 seconds.

Next up is Supersonic, which requires beating the game in under 3 hours, and I'm hoping spending those ability points lets me cut down on the deaths to do just that.

Not sure if I'm capable of completing One Life difficulty at this point.

How the hell did you do that so fast?? It took me like, an hour just to get to the top of the Ginso Tree! Well, I might be exaggerating a bit there, but it took me at least 30 tries. Though, this is my first time playing the game, so you do have previous experience on your side...

I just got Stomp and am now trying to find my way back to that area in the Hollow Grove (I believe it's in the Hollow Grove...) where you redirect those rolling green guys into the walls, but I'm getting lost. :facehoof: I don't even know if that spot is that important, but I've just got it stuck in my head to get back there.
Now where/when the hell do you get Dash? One of my next abilities in the tree is letting Ori dash in midair, but I haven't even gotten the skill yet. :ajbemused:

Alright, loaded comment, so, loaded answer.
- Indeed, this is my third time through, and I've studied some guides on where to go, what you absolutely need to clear the game. My first time through was 12 hours.
- Stomp is much, much more useful than I give it credit for, because of its AOE. The map should point you in the next direction. If you got stomp, you should go back the way you came and head for the Misty Woods. God, that area tested my fucking patience last night.
- Dash is in Black Root Burrows, probably the darkest area in the game. If you're going for 100% of all skills, yep, you need to go get it. But if you're going for the No Ability Point run or the three-hour run (my current, 4th attempt) you don't really need it.

This is my first time playing the game. You really think I would try a No Ability Point run? :rainbowlaugh:

I'm not trying to get 100% this time (though I'm guessing more skills makes the game a $#!+ ton easier), but I figured dash would just be really helpful, and I'm trying to only master abilities on the tree if I can actually use them, so since the air-dash (or whatever the hell it's called) comes before some of the other helpful abilities, I'm trying to find it and be able to use it.

So Black Root Burrows for Dash, and then Misty Woods for the next area. Good to know. I mean, I do have the map readily available and I seem to be following it fairly well, it's just that stupid area with the green guys that I want to get back to and see if it's helpful. Possibly leading me to more ability points, or energy or life cells, whatever.

The other thing that's bugging the heck out of me is those spots where there are what look like vertical wooden stakes blocking pathways, and the energy charge doesn't break them. What the heck are you supposed to DO?? Or does that require another skill? Is that the flame charge that I see on the ability tree?

You mean the puking frogs?

If your timing is good and aim is good, bash the projectile back at them (you'll have to arc it). Or, as I discovered from Brady's playthrough, Stomp tosses them up in the air and stuns them upon hitting the ground, giving you about a second to get closer and set up another stomp.

No, not them. The guys that roll after you that you need to deflect to break those green walls. I believe there are two of those walls in the area I'm talking about (pretty sure it was Hollow Grove). I searched it up on a forum online and someone answered that you need Bash. This was before I got Bash, though, so I just kept going and figured I'd have to come back later.
Good to know that about the puking frogs, though. Thanks for the heads-up.

No problem.

Meanwhile, think I'm done. Just completed the three-hour run at 2:15:49.

I've decided to leave the achievements at 98%. I'm not touching One Life difficulty with a thirty foot pole.

Ori and the Blind Forest is a wonderful game. When I heard they had a Definitive edition with an added area I was excited and had to 100% the first version of it quickly. So I didn't have time to do each of those achievements one by one. So, I did all three at the same time :D

Supersonic is definitely the harder of them all. Good shit completing it
