Reaction: 1 Year Anniversary of Completion · 7:10pm Feb 18th, 2018

Well... this kind of snuck up on me. A couple weeks ago I just happened to realize/ notice that February 18th would be 1 year after I published the last chapter in Reaction. And then I sort of forgot until I looked again a couple days ago. That time I didn't forget about it coming up on one year. I find myself asking where that year went...

So I thought I'd sort of celebrate that. I'm going to be working on college later, but I thought I might as well make a blog post acknowledging it and inviting you all to comment and talk- even if I'm working on college, I'll check back here to see what you've said. Ask questions, comment on your favorite part, point out and or rub in my mistakes, etc!

And as you (hopefully) are aware, Reaction has a sequel, Critical Mass. If you're not aware of that I don't really have anything to say about that because I don't know what to say about that. Maybe I'd need more advertising. ...back on topic... And if you've been paying attention, you should also know that I have plans for a sequel to Critical Mass. There will be an update on that shortly.

*Picture by "artist:twidasher" added for celebration. I thought about adding a couple more but decided against it.

I've been wondering, how long was it between you joining the mlp fandom and you starting to write stuff. Also did you always like writing. I've started to ponder actually writing a story of my own but I'm a bit worried, particularly because English was one of my weaker subjects and I really didn't like studying it. It wasn't as bad as Spanish, but still. In my GCSEs I got a B in literature and C in language, so while not bad, not great either. And I hated writing essays.

But last year I had to type a 5000 essay for my EPQ, which I basically did so I could put in on my university application to look good. However because I could write it on a topic of my choice, and therefore one I enjoy, as well as not have to do it by hand under timed conditions, I actually quite enjoyed writing it. So now I'm actually considering writing. Something I never thought I'd do, there is a reason I only do maths, chemistry and physics now, I hated writing essays, but now I don't think it would be so bad.

I was wondering if you had any advice on what I should do.

Thanks

I absolutely hated English as a subject all my life. I still dislike it... And here I am, a writer/author. You don't have to like English to write. I used to hate writing, too, but that was probably because it was English.

Well, I started writing fanfiction fairly soon after I joined the fandom, I guess. Prior to MLP, I'd had no experience with fanfiction. A couple months later after watching the show, I wrote some fanfiction. It was before I had seen season 3 and the changelings, but when I did see that it worked out pretty much perfectly and I was able to write them in and make the story work out great. I have that fanfic on my computer. I personally think it's okay/pretty good, but I don't know how it'd compare.

I joined Fimfiction a while later after I got tired of tracking stories through a text document. I don't remember when I first started writing on here. It was a story I summarily took down after a few chapters cause it was bad and stuff. Eventually, I got back into writing, though. There's another fanfic I have from around that time, too. It's on my Fimfiction list, but I never finished nor published it. It was, perhaps unsurprisingly, a Twidash story.

If you want to write, go ahead and try! You'll never improve if you never try. That's my advice to you. If you have an idea, write it! Enjoy what you write and write what you enjoy. Read a lot and you can learn to write better (I've not been reading as much as I should be lately because of time issues). It helps if you don't try to compare yourself to others so far as success goes, otherwise, you can get demotivated quick (I know from experience).

Thanks, if I will write (which will probably be the case) I will definitely keep your advice in mind. I was planning on basically writing the whole of my first story, but not uploading it, until it was all done. This means I can go over what I did and improve it with the experience I gained writing. It would also help give me an idea of how fast I write so when writing in the future I know what kind of schedule I will be able of keeping. It also means that if writing really isn't my thing and I give up halfway through, nothing would have been uploaded so I wouldn't be adding to the list of forever incomplete stories.

Also, I almost always find it that when I do stuff for others, I generally put in more effort than when it's for myself. So even saying here that I might start writing will probably help kick my arse into gear even if nobody actually expected anything. I basically put unnecessary pressure on myself, or maybe it is necessary to start writing and I never would write had I not written this comment on this day. I guess we'll never know.
