So, finally got around to posting two of the vids I got while there. The person I stayed with held the camera. It's simply pure joy for me to be near lions, and since I feel not even the slightest trace of fear, the sociable ones tend to be very relaxed around me (some aggressive lions in other zoos found me puzzling and weren't quite sure what to do as I didn't respond like other people to their snarls.)
Ah, look at how regal that lion is... and how hideous I am! What an old baldy nerd boy I'm turning into! ;]
But it was a wonderful experience. I'm going once more this November... since I bought the plane tickets early, BEFORE the announcement that our lab was closing (thanks for that, hospital executives) and since I'd lose hundreds from the ticket price for cancelling, I just decided, "Screw it, I'm going anyway." The plane ticket is the 'lion's share' of the cost, anyway. I stay with someone I know down there, and I still have a few thousand pesos from last time. So, the trip is already funded.
But I'm going to make sure I make the best of this last time and spend as long with the lions as possible!
