7. Cern, Goddess of Deer
Cern was a special creation of Nora, Creator Goddess of Destiny. She granted Cern the gift of foresight, the ability to see all paths in time and space. Everything that was to be, and could be, was Cern’s gift and yet also her curse. She knew all the possible paths there were in life and in death, but when one can see all there is one soon grows bored with the ability. Life becomes meaningless and there is little joy in knowing every action and its reaction. Even if fate was changed radically she would still forsee it. To heal herself from this pain, Cern created her species and shared her power of foresight with them all. With each new deer born into the world, she began to lose her gift until she could only periodically see into the future much like her creations.
However, in granting deer the gift of foresight, she made then targets for various kings, warlords, and ambitious magic users who wished to use their gifts for themselves. Deer were captured, their families enslaved, forced to push their gifts to see the future for their masters or else executed. Angry and fearful of her creation’s fate, she used her powers to give them all a vision. In this vision, they were to go to a mystical forest that had been isolated for many years due to the dangerous creatures and dark corners. Here they gathered, all over the world, and were protected by their goddess who made the forest her domain.
Many armies tried to take over the forest, but they were all mysteriously slaughtered to the last solider. Even fire wasn’t strong enough to burn it away. Eventually, all gave up on trying to recapture the deer, and they were finally left in peace. In turn, they decided to focus their gifts and choose who was worthy of their talents. In many legends, deer had summoned great heroes of old so that they could be guided to fulfill their destiny. Even Princess Celestia and Luna met them once. Otherwise, it is rare to even see a single deer. You could live a dragon’s lifetime and never see one.
As for Cern, she works with Nora to foresee prophecy and deliver them to those who need it, but never intervenes. She knows when civilizations will rise and fall. When a single figure’s life will be born and die. Even when the world will come to an end. The gods and goddess respect her for her wisdom and foresight, but they are frustrated that she will not give them the information they want unless it is at the right time. Still, Cern is happy watching and protecting over her people and living her solitude in peace.
Standing With Other Gods: While mostly isolated by the other gods, she will give advice or foretell a prophecy to a god if need be. While they respect Cern greatly, they are often annoyed by how difficult it is to get information out of her.
Looks: Think Xerneas of Pokemon, but brown and white and with a third eye.
Religious Structure: Combination of Druidism and Buddhism.
Afterlife: All deer are reincarnated into deer again upon death.
This is some nice world/character building.
Poor deer.
Wow to see all possibilities and what the future holds is a sucky power. It is sad that Twilight’s death was such a linchpin in getting what could have been the best ending possible. The a-hole who started this whole thing better have quite the severe punishment coming his way.
