The new chapter is underway and making good progress! I was in a bit of a slump because I was really hoping that Feral might be featured before Act 1, but honestly, it took something the guy I consider my brother said to snap me out of it, even though he is quite the cynical one himself. He told me, "You didn't write it to become popular, you fucking moron. You wrote it to be good..."
Indeed, he is right. While writing these last few chapters I was so blinded by my obsession to get more views that for a moment, I lost what was really important about writing. Writing is about projecting one's self, your inner being as it were, through wonderful words on a document for others to enjoy. Writing is about finding love in sharing your vision with others, and helping them realize their visions in turn. It had me pondering for a bit. Some other writers forget their roots. I have noticed that many, many writers that are extremely well-known on this site would not take the time of day to reply to you, even if you so fully devoted yourself as to enjoy every single one of their stories. It's one thing to say, "Thanks to all my readers! You guys are so awesome!" It's something much more personal and heartwarming to take the time and connect with them. Take it from a guy like me, who is on his fourth year in college, has to deal with important legal and family matters on quite the occasion, and sacrifices almost every single hour of sleep he has to devote himself to talking and sharing with his readers and friends, not to mention pouring his heart and soul into every single thing I write. So the bottom line is: If you feel that something is the right thing to do, then you make time. You take the tame to make that personal and intimate connection with the others who seem to enjoy your work so much that they would take time out of their day to read what you so meagerly type on a screen. A writer's stories aren't a gift to the readers, the reader's attention is the gift to the writer, and I am so sorry I seem to have lost sight of this in favor of some silly ambition to have my story plastered on a box in the far right hand corner of this very screen. I will not let it happen again, and I will continue to devote myself to writing some of the best stories you have ever seen in order to pay you back for all the attention and admiration that all of you have shown me. Don't just consider them my stories, consider them your stories as well.
tl;dr: Don't let your desire for popularity change who you are as a writer, and never forget your readers. Without them, you wouldn't be writing in the first place.
