Is it Right to Ask for Money for Fanfics? · 6:36pm Nov 9th, 2017
Hey kids, been awhile and I know I haven't been writing.
But I'm going through some things right now and I've been stressing. Despite that though I've been wondering, is it write to ask for money for writing fanfics?
Currently I'm without a job (no I'm not in trouble and I'm not going to beg for money) but it does make me wonder about people who monetize fanfics. I'm not condemning or anything, but I suppose I'm wondering if it's something I could do. I do put in a lot of time and energy into writing this stuff.
HOWEVER, as I type this I realize it'd be the same as taking commissions for drawing fanart so that conflict is more or less null. XD
Still, I wouldn't want to start a patreon over this. I guess now I'm wondering if I asked for donations would you, followers of my work, be willing to give a bit though paypal? It's just a thought, don't feel pressured to do so.
However if you would like to I could link to my paypal through pm if you pmed me. I know money is tight all around so this isn't something you'd feel the need to do. I don't want to pressure or anything and I really don't like to beg for money so I'm just going to end it here before I keep digging this hole. XD
That would be pretty much a patreon lol. Would be the easiest way to do it. Yeah you can ask for money, just be aware that fimfic has some rules regarding the subject. Basically all your stories here need to deliver the same experience, no matter if the user paid for it or not. So no donation exclusive chapters.

I didn't plan on it. It was all just a thought and I don't feel comfortable doing a patreon since I'm not really a full time writer in a sense?
What I mean I didn't plan on donation exclusive chapters, it hadn't crossed my mind and it seems unfair in a way. I dunno, desperation for money makes you consider things like this I guess. XD

Donation only chapters are simply against the rules, just thought I'd warn ya ;P
If you're gonna ask for donations you might as well do a patreon. Remember it's just for people that want to support you, you're not begging or forcing anyone to donate ( Well unless you actively do either of those things, but it doesn't seem like you will).
It depends on you really. If you're not comfortable with it, then you don't have to.
Commissions come in all flavors, from writing to drawing, and even to voice readings (I think). I'd love to do something like this, but my subpar scribbles are too.....lackluster to be commish material :/
Plus I don't have a paypal. Still, your works are pretty awesome. Just do what you feel comfortable with :3

Well, I'd say put out announcements on Deviantart, tumblr, or even here if they have a group dedicated for artists. You could try starting with those?

Ehhhh, I'd consider a patreon if I had like... a BIG fanbase. I'd otherwise stick to paypal...
But these days I'm told kids don't really have a paypal so IDK. XD
