The tag, not literally everyone. I have written plenty such rated stories myself, and every single one of them was cute and adorable (or so I am told), but what is the site's definition of Everyone?

Everyone stories should be appropriate for general audiences. They should include no content that a parent would find objectionable for a child. The general idea here is “things that would be reasonable to see on the show itself.”

So mind-control, imprisonment, bad-end transformations, and mental scarring—according to the show—are rated E.

What about slavery, piracy, murder, and burning people alive? These have all been shown in the recent movie, so are these now a staple (some even shown in detail) of an E rated fic? If Hasbro had submitted the movie as a story, what do you think it should be rated?

Interesting little thought experiment. Maybe I should go through each episode of the show and classify it as per fimfiction's tags?

As a great superhero says: "Love with your heart. Use your head for everything else!"

I had a little think, and came up with:

Teen; Adventure, Anthro, Comedy; Twilight Sparkle, Pinkie Pie, Other

The way I look at it, if it could be in the show, it can be rated E. That means there's a bit of leeway depending on how you write your story, though it's a fickle process at best.

If it were me I'd change it to 'reasonable parent'. There are some pretty unreasonable parents out there and if we were to cater to their whims there would be no culture or entertainment suitable for children or anyone else.

If I wrote a story where a character uses a flamethrower as a weapon, and when they have the enemy falling back they give another few blasts, that would be E rated? What if the fire is described as consuming the enemy, such that some collapse and stop moving? And what if I had most of the mane6 cheering for this? E rated?

Ehhh... A lot of it depends on how you phrase it. If you don't describe the violence or make it dark depicted, I don't see why not.
