No, that's not an opinion, that's a fact given who made it and what I've read about it on wikia and tv tropes. Don't try and deny the plot made no sense and was as generic and bland and trite, even by the low standards of the show, and also that this is probably one of the prime reasons why the film was a bomb.

Look if I said I like it I like it despite its flaws. Beside, you don't have to read those reviews on it only by experience it instead of relying on reviews from critics.
Honestly really mixed on the movie.
On one hand(er.. hoof) the animation was beautiful and introduced a pretty badass character in form of Tempest Shadow.
Though whats making it hard for me to enjoy the movie fully is how the Royal Sisters got taken out and statued like that. Just badly wasted.
It really hurts more with Princess Luna, how the movie shafted her is hard to live down honestly..
