It's time I crawl out of my hole. · 5:28am Sep 28th, 2017
I haven't posted a new chapter for 117 or for Nova in two years. The question is, what have I been up to all this time? Well, I finished high school and started college. Nothing fancy, just a local community college. I also got a job during my absence... Wendy's... which lasted a month and a half... second job (Target) lasted three months... until the angry leprechaun that was my manager fired me because she didn't like my mother... Third job I stuck with for nine months, working at a car parts shop. Advanced Auto... I actually enjoyed it and learned a few things... but the district manager kept cutting labor hours, to the point that i was only getting half as many hours as I did when i started, and we were so badly understaffed that it was a great day if there were three of us working at the same time. It was very quiet there...... I started my fourth job about 3 months ago. I work at Starbucks now. It's actually not as bad as mainstream media makes it out to be. Most drinks I make aren't that complicated; believe it or not but most people just want coffee, instead of an Iced 2/3rd caff cafe Pumpkin Spice Chai Soy Extra Foam Wet Latte with a caramel Drizzle and Extra Whip Cream.
Yes, that is a viable drink.
Yes, I have made that drink.
Yes, it is complicated to make that drink.
Yes, I have gotten worse drinks than that.
And Yes, Wet is a specification. You can also order a Dry latte......
The job has great benefits too. They've got a partnership with Arizona State Online, free classes as long as I work 20 hours a week (free drinks doesn't hurt either).
I got my first car over the summer of 2015... didn't really talk about that one much (if at all). It's a 1987 Chrysler Fifth Avenue. It needed a lot of work, but I drove that to school during my Senior year. It was pretty funny actually... I live in a rich town. The people here have money here... I never did, grew up poor. So parking my car in my spot in the lot, where every other car there was a model year BMW, Camaro, Mustang, or Pickup Truck (for the more outdoorsy children of rich parents)... it was both amusing and kinda humbling. These kids would get a brand new car when they turn 16, crash it in six weeks, parents would blame the car and buy them a new one. I'm not even kidding there, it was that common. But that's in the past. Thanks to my rather reasonable pay at Starbucks (albeit pretty close to minimum wage), I was able to afford a lease on a base model Toyota Corolla. (still have the Chrysler) Better gas mileage, less work to maintain (no maintenance at all aside from an oil change every few thousand miles), and it's actually got modern tech in it. (yay Air Conditioning!) Speaking of modern tech, I got a new laptop too; an Alienware 17 R4 with 32 gigs of ram!
Now for what you're probably all here for. My stories... I think I'm gonna do a redux of 117. I feel that I'm a bit better at telling a story now, and think that readability would be improved if I changed a few things and switched the story to a 3rd person narration. I could continue as I am with the first person, and maybe instead focus on finally finishing chapter 20... But I don't know. This doesn't mean I'm gonna unleash a massive spike in productivity; life keeps me busy between working 30 hours a week and taking college classes... not to mention maintaining a long distance relationship. I do plan to avoid going a season or two without logging in though.
In all honesty... I'm surprised there are still people reading my stories. Coming back and seeing 58 followers, over 70k total views, and almost 600 comments between my two stories... I've got a bit more hope that I might actually make a few people happy to see me get back to work. Now, it is late, and I need sleep. Goodnight all.
*sheds tears*
You're growin up well.
Stay in the right path brother
Honestly I would be ecstatic, and read the second I see you updated if you updated one, or both stories. (Preferably Eternal Guardian.) But I know I'm going to be waiting for a bit, and so I shall await ever vigilantly for that day mein freund.
