Whelp, I was super wrong on assuming Spike was in this episode.  Oh well, moving on!

Over all this was a great episode.  I’m a huge fan of any episode that has Starlight as the main character and now with Trixie being her new sidekick (girlfriend) it just make these episodes even more enjoyable!

I had my doubts but that was a very cute an enjoyable slice of life episode!  First off some key points

    - Flyders…basically spiders with wings o.O

    - Ancient Earth Ponies are Vikings…I can see that

    - Ancient Unicorns are Asian (Chinese I think?) Was not expecting that but sure!  Also dang, them curved horns o.O

Alright, that episode of MLP was awesome!  Easily one of my favs this season.  While the setup and logic can be a bit silly, the overall message I felt was great!  This was not said, but I feel Spike’s  actions can be seen as not just trusting his friends but also selfish, as though he didn’t want to share them?  Sort of a risk of losing a friend to another friend kinda deal…or maybe I’m

Seeing more of the new changeling hive has been on my wish list since the end of season 6 and we got that in full force this episode.  Now, first off I would like to say I dislike greatly that just becomes the changelings are nice it’s shown that that means their weak now as well.  This is a horrible message but thankfully it doesn’t stick to that view and we even get to see the new pretty bugs show that they can still throw down if need be.

Now the meat of this episode’s message.  Thorax’s brother.  It’s true that all it takes is one person with a bad attitude to ruin an otherwise great environment.  We can see this in a school class, work place, sports team, musical group, table top RPG party.  You name it, when a group of people are together, it can just take one to ruin it for everyone.

So, what needs to happen when you have someone like Thorax’s brother (I seriously can’t remember his name…I wanna say Idris Elba but I know that’s wrong) causing everyone else to be miserable.  This episode shows your two options, try and explain to him he needs to change and if that doesn’t work ya gotta kick them out!

Of course writing someone off as a lost cause is always the most extreme of measure and even if you’re forced to do so that doesn’t mean you can’t then give them another chance later down the line.

In the end, this message was outstanding.  We get to see that Idris didn’t hate the hive or his brother.  What he couldn’t handle was change (irony!)  This is so true for many people.  For Idris, he loved his hive and wanted to protect them, keep them safe.  But because he couldn’t except the changes they were all making, it caused him to lash out and hurt them, the exact opposite of what he truly wanted to do!

The resolution was on the quick side, but the message stayed true regardless.  Idirs can still hunt, patrol, be the tough bug, just don’t be a dick about it!  I was worried the episode would act as if he needed to redo his whole personality, but nope, nothing was wrong with him except his negative outlook.  Wonderful and mature lesson!

Other fine points is Starlight and her amazing ‘I don’t know what I’m doing’ style of help!  Trixie, you’re an ego-maniacal bitch and we keep loving you for it (again, she’s a great example on you don’t have to change your personality, just don’t be so negative)

Between last season and this one, I feel the lessons in MLP are becoming more heavy and mature in nature.  It’s no longer simple things like, be nice to your friends, talk with your friends, ask your friends for advise.  Now it’s moved into these social lessons on excepting yourself, working on changing your negative qualities while striving to embrace your positive qualities.  Issues on forgiveness, emotional hurts, dealing with negative influences and excepting you’re not perfect and that’s okay as long as you keep striving to be better.

These have been my rambling thoughts
