[STORY BTS] My Daughter, Jackie · 11:00pm Aug 20th, 2017
My Daughter, Jackie wasn't actually a story that I wrote from personal experience or negative thoughts, but quite the opposite.
On a personal level, it does have the emotions of grief, helplessness and sorrow, all of which are from what I've felt in the previous years of my life.
The idea for the story came to me from Room 1408 by Stephen King. The main protagonist's daughter falls ill with cancer and although he tries to keep her happy and comfortable, she tragically dies. Now, with my story, it is a tad similar, but the separation between the father and daughter isn't caused by death.
Of course, Jackie is terminally ill, so she does not survive. I did not write this scene because it would be far beyond my comfort zone and it's something I know I probably shouldn't write. The main reason is that I don't intend to hurt my readers deeply with the heartache the topic of terminal illness brings.
All in all, I quit writing Human in Equestria stories a long time ago, but when I got this idea, I decided to write it after a long and mental debate. Truth be told, I was actually and honestly scared to write this due to the unpredictable responses I might get for it. Like I said, I don't want to unintentionally hurt someone's feelings or bring about pure and deep distress.
There isn't really that much about this story that I can discuss or explain other than the above, but I will say that I probably won't be writing another story of this nature. It makes me uncomfortable as a writer, so just the fact that I managed to get this story out surprises me.
This also might have worked out as an actual novella/novel, but I couldn't find the will to do it. The main protagonist (Adam) was meant to try and find a way back to his daughter after landing in Equestria after a mysterious event on his way to visit her on the way to the hospital where she was staying
I originally intended him to have a place to stay with Applejack and her family at her home, but, like I said, I didn't think it would really work out. It would have been a waste of my time to write such as long story. I think we all know which way round the story would end up.
With that being said, I think now would be an appropriate time to close up this blog.
Until next time.
